Regarding the Tribunal, Player Behavior, and Lyte's job performance at Riot Games
This. This was the post we all saw and were promised that Tribunal was going to be improved and that Riot was going to listen to our feedback.
"We’re going to temporarily put the Tribunal in maintenance mode" This was posted on May 16th 2014. At the time of writing this post it is July 18th, 2015.
It's been a year and 2 months and League is as toxic as it was when this was posted. Lyte will come and comment and say that "toxicity has been reduced by x percent and people are less toxic than before" but behaviors like http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/rz0Z4my0-can-we-please-do-something-about-this-bull happen all the time and are completely unseen by your automated system (this is just using pre-game lobby as an example, but there is toxicity everywhere).
The entirety of tribunal is automated and hands out chat restrictions quickly giving "swift justice" so to speak. This sounds good on paper but there is literally no feedback besides "your behavior is bad, you have been chat restricted for x games". There is no way for players to see how to improve their behavior and all this does is limit team communication and frustrate those players, making them increasingly toxic and punishing the non-toxic players as well. On top of that, the players who are chat-restricted in game are often just as toxic and will often just type out max length messages of toxicity in order to bypass the message limit.
Your new system was "in testing" since May 20th and we have yet to see any updates whatsoever (some of the points outlined could potentially work, for example REPORT CARDS TO SEE WHAT YOU DID, but who knows if this will ever happen after waiting for over a year). This new system includes "two-week or permanent bans" based on a automated system which consists of "Teammates or opponents of the offending player sending reports and the system validating them to make sure they aren’t false". The auto-ban part, however, Lyte was sure to include before actually putting in the useful part of giving constructive feedback to toxic players
As we can see from recent forum posts http://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/VzLZtMLe-toxic-players-ganged-up-on-me-got-me-a-2-week-ban-read-if-you-dont-believe-it this system is easily abusable and results in innocent players being banned. This isn't a niche case; this happens all the time and especially in particular to solo players. It is very easy for a group of 2,3, or even 4 players to hold others hostage in a system which rewards not quality reports but rather quantity of reports.
Back when League started a system with actual moderators was used in order to read reports with human eyes and it worked great. When I started playing this game 5 years ago, the community was actually half-way decent; you didn't have people acting like terrorists in champ select or holding their entire team hostage in a game because they did something they didn't agree with. This was because the correct players were weeded out and innocent people were not antagonized by a backwards automated system.
Why can Blizzard afford GMs and Riot can't? You guys are one of the richest gaming companies in the world making over $624 million last year and will be the first to hit over $1 billion in micro transaction revenues (source: http://www.pcgamer.com/league-of-legends-has-made-almost-1-billion-in-microtransactions/ ). Isn't a working player behavior system and the happiness of your players worth hiring people to do actual moderation? I guess customer service is over-rated
But I digress, the real issue here is how this has been going on for over a year without improvement while Riot continues to stonewall the community and their feedback, and rake in money off E-Sports and skin sales while throwing a big middle finger to the players.
We are talking Riot, you are not listening.
