Do I have to buy Sightstone?
Teammates harass me for never getting 
as support. Isn't buying

the same thing? Whatever role I play, including ADC I'm always sure to get and to upgrade . Is that not normal?

You need sightstone. Upgrading your trinket as support isn't as good because you can't upgrade your yellow trinket and buy red trinket at same time :D
It's not the same at all. Buying a sightstone is more gold efficient. If you're just buying wards, then you're wasting your money that you could spend on items your team needs you to have like 
and the like. Also, you should be getting red trinket after buying a sightstone. Sightstone was specifically added to the game to remove the need to stock up on because back in the day that's all you could do.
To answer your other question, buying wards on ADC is fine if you feel like your support isn't warding the right places or you feel like the area of the map is being pressured. In other cases, just tell your support where to ward. And don't forget to say please.

new or bad players highly underrate the power of vision and utility and end up playing things like full ap lux support instead of nami with a crucible and a locket to actually support her team instead of trying to be a carry with low gold income the trade off is really not worth it

long as u buying some stealth wards b4 u upgrade u can gain a good advantage having more combat items to play with, mainly for low elo.
doesnt work well if behind, so u better carry if you are not buying sightstone/sweeper
