Wait wait wait wait wait. Who made OP THE judge on pronouncing champion names?

What? No one?

The only people who can actually tell anyone the proper pronunciation are the Rioters who named them OR the rules of the language their name is borrowed from (if whoever named Xin Zhao says it's suppose to be "Ex-in Zee-how", I am still pronouncing it by Pinyin rules).

Yeah, sure, some of them are obviously pronounced one way, but when there is nothing in the client to canonize a name's pronunciation (like a champion taunt/joke referencing themselves or another champion), you pronouncing it reasonably based on what you hear from your friends, YouTube videos, streams, language rules is perfectly acceptable.

Akali for example.. Since my friends pronounced Vi's name [V-EYE], I assumed all other champions that ended with 'i' would carry the same phonetic, so I pronounced it "Ack-uh-lye." That's neither my fault, nor should it be considered wrong.

If someone pronounces a name wrong and you feel the need to correct them, fucking cut your tongue out and go petition Riot to put an ominous voice pronouncing it on selection like in Mortal Kombat before the champion's selection quote, or however else they want to do it. But until then, ambiguous names can be pronounced however the hell anyone wants to within reason.

Other champions with names I don't officially know how to pronounce that haven't been listed by OP or me, that I've heard pronounced different ways by friends or streams, that I consider neither to be wrong: JarvanIV Juh-arven? Yarven? Kalista Ka-leesta? Ka-list-uh? Kennen Kee-nin? Keh-nin? Lissandra Liss-ANdruh? Liss-AHNdra? Nasus NAY suhs? NAH suhs? NAY/NAH soos? Rengar Ren-gar? RANGar? Riven rEYE vin? Riven? (like River) Ryze Riz? Rise? Shaco shAYko? shAHko? Shacko? Sona SOHna? Sah-na? Soraka SorAYka? SorAHka? Udyr Oo-Deer? Yuu-Deer? Oo/Yuu- Der? Duhr? Urgot Err-got? Err-go? Veigar VAYgar? Veegar? (This one is obvious to me, but still)

A. Just because you and your friends have always pronounced them one way, doesn't make the others wrong. B. Just because a specific Rioter pronounces it one way, doesn't make them right, unless they're implying they're officially clearing up the confusion of pronouncing that champion's name. C. If any of these are said somewhere in the game or by a Riot video, I was unaware, and I'll take down that champion.

In my opinion, Riot doesn't give a shit how you pronounce it, or they'd have every champion name said aloud somewhere on the client or in the game. And if Riot doesn't care, you shouldn't pitch a bitch fit about it.

As a person with an family history of Finnish and Swedish who understands the pronunciation of their words, hearing the way people/Rito says JarvanIV and Teemo has always DRiven me crazy.

Probably just me.

Can any fellow Scandinavians attest to this?
