Random goodbye rant
Just a random rant maybe a goodbye? We will figure as we go, I guess
It's no secret that the game is in a sorry state. Lethality is busted. Rengar, Lee, Camille, Yasuo, and Jayce are still bullshit. You will still get punished for trying to break the meta and have fun, if it's completely viable. Damage is still going through the motherfucking roof. Flashy plays are still what Riot qualifies as "fun gameplay". LCS is still what defines which champions get to actually exist as a pick for the rest of us while the remaining hundred are left in the gutter. And this has been going on for almost as far as I can remember.
I started to play in late-ish Season 2. I was too fucking horrible back then to come here and tell you that I even knew enough about the game to say that I gave enough of a shit about balance to have any memory of the game's state at the time. All I remember was that I'd see quite a lot of champions being picked and working out all right.
Each Season that passed, I'd get more aware about the game's state. I'd see champions being intentionally turned into garbage (hello Olaf, Azir, Kalista), I'd see off-meta builds beung destroyed rather than balanced (because maybe lowering Yi's Q AP scaling and putting it on something like his E to allow for a different build would be too much to ask), I'd see the pool of viable champioms getting smaller and smaller, despite the champion pool getting bigger and bigger.
And yet I'd play the game constantly. Hell I've made friends over this game and grew apart from others due to how much I played it fuck, that's kinda pathetic now that I type it out loud to myself. With each shitty change, came something to be hyped about. For each couple of champions made useless, a new one would be released or reworked, or a item would be changed or added. And those would keep me hooked for another half a dozen of patches.
The thing was: I'd keep telling myself over and over that this was just a rough period. That Riot would get it's shit together and that LoL would be just as fun as ut used to be. Well, after all this fucking time, it finally came to me: League ain't coming back from it's path. If anything it's just going deeper into it.
So I guess that's it. It has been a good and long run. I've had moments of incredible fun along this half of a decade holy shit, never noticed how long I've been playing it. Sadly those moments are getting rather rare and slowly but surely fading in face of moments of frustration due to the game's and the community's state.
Despite all the overly dramatic bullshit above, things are fairly simple. This is a game and it's supposed to be fun. For me, that's not the case anymore in the vast majority of the games. Winning or losing, playing the game feels almost like a chore. Pick the right champion, the right role, the right build. Play it perfectly. The first time you mess up, you can be sure that there will be someone to vent their frustration at you. For every 10 games like this, you'll have a legitimately fun one. Sounds like dog training, now that I think about it.
Anyway, I guess that's it for me. The game is simply not that fun anymore. And what is the point of playing a game if not having fun?
I hope you enjoy the game and the time you're spending here, but don't do the same mistake as me and keep playing just blindly hoping for it to go back to a previous state. Your free time is more important than that.
GGWP, this drunken zombie is out.
