Free VBA Scripting Classes on LoL Forum

Hi y'all. So I'm an LoL nerd at night and a math/CS nerd during the day. I teach VBA scripting at two colleges in NY and thought it would be a nice gesture to give VBA tips on the LoL forums. Gonna throw a poll out there to see the interest level given this will be a decently large undertaking.

(Good as an Intro to Programming class)

OK then, thought I'd getting a bigger response from a gaming community.

Maybe c++/c# would be more popular :)

Sorry pal, but I'm pretty sure that scripting in LOL is considered cheating. While it's not a huge deal, and difficult to track through the client, I'd still rather not risk it.

On the other hand, I'd be interested to know how similar VBA is to AHK, and what other applications it has besides gaming scripts.

What? I've never scripted in LoL (don't even know how). Think of this as an Intro to Programming class.

No idea why you are getting worked up...

Oh, your suggestion was for coding with VBA in general, not specifically league scripting, my mistake. In that case I'd be interested, but probably not very involved.

Would it be useful to a person who has less than zero understanding of anything programming whatsoever?

I'm a Finance and Econ major who graduated college 3 years ago but I've always wanted to learn a little programming...

This would be the entire point of the class :).

It would be, but C++ is hardcore and would require much more time and more commitment from the students. I find VBA very easy to learn and doesn't require software installation that C++ requires (Excel is enough).

Cool then I'm very interested.

VBA macros in excel are super handy and surprisingly powerful with even just the basics. Highly recommend giving this a shot!

I'm not much of an excel guy but I have a friend who is... trying, for a personal use database. Would you say offhand that VBA macros are/can be more efficient than using functions? I'm a programmer already but I'd follow these threads if I could optimize that thing, it's a mess.

Macros create functions.

So if you already are using built in functions on a sheet and its a mess, chances are you can make it much cleaner and intuitive with your own custom functions.

Sounds viable to me. If you do it I'll follow along for a jumping off point.

Seems interesting. A little surprised since this isn't really related to League, though.

Sure sounds like fun.

Thanks for taking your time to do this.

Happy at how well this took off, I'll start later on today.
