When you get mid, tips?

I normally Support main (used to getting it), but decided to put my carry pants on. I am trying to get jungle so I usually put Mid (thinking since it's always +1000% wait time I'll never get it) BUUUUUUUT if I do get it, who plays well into Zed (assuming he's not banned, he seems to get picked a lot). Just had a game where I was thankfully Mid FIRST pick... so I tried Ziggs (thinking I could safely farm). All it took was 1 kill for Zed (which he pretty much is guaranteed to get it seems after 6, just R onto you, AA and his other abilities means he can just portal back to safety with maybe 1 tower shot). I thought I was doing well until then and then it was just non stop deaths. Just felt helpless during it as well.

Tips? Ziggs a really awful mid pick? Is Zhonya's an effective counter right now? I know they lowered the Armor and AP on it (meaning you don't really tank as well as you used to and you're not returning damage nearly as well and Zed R cooldown is a lot shorter than Zhonya's anyway).

A couple times I just immediately tried ultimating myself as soon as he jumped on me, but seemed like he was able to do enough damage to kill me with ult and shadow jump out before my ult landed.

vs an ad assassin like Zed Yasuo champs like Lissandra Kayle Lulu are safe picks Swain is decent some consider him a counter to Yasuo . Annie is some what safe. some skill match ups would be Ahri Leblanc Viktor

Ward and learn to freeze lanes, the further you get them to go up, the easier it is to set up a gank, stealth wards cost 75g, use them, ward both sides of the river.

For champs that have big Ad like Zed, Talon, Yas, barrier is a great choice, or even exhaust would be okay.

Worse comes to worse, just don't die, and farm under your turret till you get some help, whatever you do, don't feed the mid laner, it'll make it harder for your bot lane when the enemy mid lane can freely roam, and you can't chase because they got fed and you got behind.

Also, try to find balance in roaming and laning, it's always a hard decision to roam and help a lane, or to push your turret.

If you're a support main, I'd suggest Lux. She has long range and a shield, which helps you survive against assassins. If you fall behind, you can just play her like a support, too, since she's a decent support. Lulu is an alternative.
