Why does Luden's proc pop Banshee's Veil, but not Edge of Night?

Hethalean··106 votes·3,065 views

Title.

EDIT: It was brought to my attention that the title is unclear.

Why does the Proc from item 3285 get absorbed by item 3102 (and then putting it's passive on cooldown). However when you have the active shield from item 3814 up, item 3285's proc doesn't pop the shield? Also, please tell me if I am utterly wrong in my observation, and that item 3285 proc does pop item 3814. I can be wrong as well.

EDIT: IT sounds like I was way wrong, and it does pop it. So either I'm insane; I am stupid / seeing things; or a bug... I guess a combo of all 3 is possible.

because theyre trying to make banshees such a terrible option that theyre forced to rework it

i think

Hethalean3 votes

That could be. I sure hope that is not how Riot goes about their balancing. lol

the cooldown for banshees is 10 seconds longer than edge too and resets if you take any damage from champions

its really dumb

The state of item 3102 VS item 3814 in general is a perfect example of the pathetic state this game is in.

If an offensive Item has a stronger defensive effect than purely defensive Item in every single scenario possible you know there's something wrong. This Ludens thing is just another cherry on top!

If you get jumped on without warning, Banshee's is definitely better. I agree that Edge of Night is often better than Banshee's, and that there are some weird interactions specifically between Edge of Night and some DoT/unusual damage source effects I've sometimes noticed that should be looked into, but you can't say that it's better in every single scenario.

I mean if they have alot of ap id rather get banshees because of how much mr that thing has

TurquoiseYoshi1 votes

It's more about the effect than about the item itself. Banshee's is overall a better defensive item, but if you're a damaging champion, you want the damage from the Edge of Night instead. I don't really think there's a huge argument on the stats of either item being too out of place.

yeah i see what you mean

IMO Banshee's should be the default MR item for tanks and Spirit Visage should be the situational one. At least Spirit Visage has a clear niche on who it should be taken on.

Hethalean4 votes

I agree, but I always find myself taking Spirit 100%. This could be 'scrub bias' talking, but I've never found the shield to be useful. It's taken down by stray spells you don't want ot absorb at the worst time. It doesn't have CDR, and while it has 15 more MR, I find the 200 HP more on Spirit to be more valuable... Again I'm a scrub, so my bias could be wrong. :)

Yeah Spirit Visage is waaay better right now. Banshee's Veil is so gold inefficient compared to it and Spirit Visage increases ALL healing, not just self-healing so it's good with healer supports. I really think they need to revert it to only self-healing and swap the stats, cost, and build around with Banshee's Veil. Logically, champions with sustain would want more magic resist than health anyways since it would make their healing worth more.

Banshee's Is remarkable on Aurelion Sol.

Same with certain abilities. I noticed things like riven's first/second q, and fioras q will not pop edge of night spellshield but I'm pretty certain they pop banshees. There's probably other abilities that don't pop it either but I don't know which ones.

Zyra's plants don't.

I don't believe Zyra's plants pop banshees though. At least they shouldn't.

I tested it, you're right, seems like I'm only better at landing my Qs than I thought xD

What does it really not pop it? I could have sworn at some point my own edge was popped by ludens echo

Hethalean1 votes

I could be wrong, but I haven't seen it popped yet.

alekzu2 votes

I played ARURF as cait vs ziggs where he bought luden and I bought EoN. I can confirm that luden's passive does pop EoN's passive.

Hethalean2 votes

I was wrong then? I could have swore I saw a EoN shield take a Luden proc and not go away. Thanks for the info. This certainly isn't the first time I've been wrong, and by the Gods, it won't be the last if I can help it! lol

rtbf761092711 votes

Maybe the echo thing hit a nearby minion and it legit missed? I would be REALLY surprised if the two spell shields had different code. They already had a one ability spell shield working. Dont need to reinvent the wheel by writing tbat code again

Every time when some one talks about how the game is coded

Riot: looks around nerviously whith spagetti dripping from pockets

Bruh? "Title" is not a valid description IMO!

Bradyo1 votes

You could literally rewrite the title in the desription.

Hethalean1 votes

ok, i'll write something in the description to make it more clear.

Thanks!

Because Banshee's main weakness is that it's weak to poke?

0 Hogapu7 votes

So where is EoN's weakness..?

ModAcademy Kayn5 votes

That you can be caught by surprise. If the enemy team has been keeping an eye on vision, you can get caught out, before you have the chance to start the channel. Banshee's is always up, When it's up, so getting caught out unaware is still going to negate the first CC.

Because Banshee's main weakness is that it's weak to poke?

Except it was designed to be the item you take to block poke. When a defensive item has a worse defensive effect than an attack item you know someone somewhere dun goof'd.

DragonShea1 votes

because Banshee's suck.

Dreadlocks1 votes

it does, and if it didn't in your game I'd consider that a bug. cuz it's happened to me. in fact I think it was 2 days ago

Elikain1 votes

Uh... there shouldn't be any distinction between the two spell shields spells. It's the same mechanic that Sivir and Nocturne have as well. Luden's spell proc is counted as a damaging spell so it should proc all instances of spell shields but DoT shouldn't (unless the spell has an initial damage on cast).

meowwow71 votes

i always thought that the only way to proc the shield of edge was to have a damaging spell with some cc to it while banshee's just eats any spell

ShadowStar911 votes

Edge of night shield also doesn't pop from MissFortune E or for some reason Veigar cage

could someone explain that to me? [zombie-brand-mindblown]

A Bad Mystic1 votes

Because sneezing pops the banshees veil. Im not surprised a random dust spec could take it out too.
