Why Is It Hard For People To Not First Time A Champ In Ranked?

After all these years, all the other game modes, how is it people are still playing champs (or allowed to for that matter) for the first time (Ever) in ranked games? Why is it easier for someone to queue up, sit and wait, then lock in a first time champ, than to go into a bot game (custom or otherwise) to try it with no expectations?

It seems like something that should be reportable at this point. It is just slightly mind-boggling to think someone would prefer to go into a game with a champ they barely even know all 4 abilities of in ranked. Am I just old fashioned in the thought that I want to know what I'm doing before playing a champ in ranked?
