Institute of War- Secure, Contain, Protect (?)

Considering it's Halloween, let's all take a moment to talk about how absolutely terrifying the Institute of War is and how it's entirely likely that the summoners are horrified pawns in the grand schemes of the higher-ups.

  • For one thing, many of the most dangerous creatures in Runeterra are "contained" here for the summoner's personal use. Kog'maw, Cho'gath, Brand, etc. It'd be incredibly easy for one little slip-up to have these harbingers of the apocalypse go free.

  • Many dangerous, even evil, individuals are allowed to wander freely in Runeterra. Lissandra, Thresh, Aatrox, etc. There is no mention of these creatures being contained or even held accountable. If anything they just seem to be summoned, perform in a match and then are allowed to do whatever they wish.

  • Summoners have vital knowledge of plans and inner desires. They know Lissandra wants to end the world. They know Jayce is actually a scumbag (I am biased!) and they know things that put many others at risk, such as Vayne wishing to purge the League. Yet they allow this to happen without care to the world.

Most importantly of all, we're told the summoners are high above any champion. That they can easily subdue any champion that tries to step out of line...but what if they can't? We have to blindly trust that some magical summoners have the capacity to contain demigods, beings of pure energy and more. Hell, Nocturne was able to kill several summoners simply by slipping into the dream realm. How difficult would it be for someone like Shaco to strike off-guard and easily slay a summoner or two?

I honestly don't trust the Institute far as I can throw it. They abduct people from other worlds for blood sport, they insist they have control when their grip is lax at best -and- we have to blindly trust that they can handle it.

So how long before something breaks and we got a locked down building with the deadliest creatures in the entire world roaming the halls and picking off the "magical wardens" who said they could handle it?

Wait, aren't we summoners of the Institute?

Captain, you read the SCP Wiki? I enjoy your fanciful postings on the League forums. As a fairly-well established member of the Wiki, I can safely say we'd love to have you writing for us too. Or do you already?

More on topic, consider that Lee Sin is himself a summoner, albeit one who has foresworn the use of his magic. Consider what knowledge he might still possess of the secrets that lurk in the Institute of War.

I thought they got rid of the institute of war because Kitae couldn't write stories because it was too powerful so retcon.

On the topic, it'd be cool if anyone could mod SCP Containment Breach so that the clay statue is Galio, the Class D personel are minions and the cops are summoners.

I agree so much with you on these points. Because of this I would suggest that you read the fanfiction "The Passage of Twin Disciplines" By Kiravu on Fanfiction.net. It has really tickled my fancy on this subject, though it only teases at it so far, albeit seeming to be the primary over-arcing story line.

New lore pages note that Shaco, Nocturne, and Fiddlesticks are friends. You know that means their probably planning a prison break; I don't want to be around when that happens.

As a side note I'd like to grant you bonus points for referencing the SCP Foundation.

It's not so much that summoners are individually strong, but as a unit, the summoners of the Institute of War are capable of catastrophic power beyond what any individual champion is capable of (see: Kalamanda). It helps to paint a picture of the individual summoners being quite disposable considering it took 400 to create the stasis bubble.

They more than likely have a contingency plan, or two, should any chaos arise within their holdings.

Shaco can do very little thing against oracles...
