Comparisons between feeding and "toxicity"

I just played through a game where one player played absolutely horribly and another player insulted them a couple times. It made me wonder about a few things.

Intentional feeding is bannable. Unintentional feeding is not. Playing terribly is perfectly acceptable. A player goes 0-8 in their solo lane, and the player carrying through their lane makes a comment like, "You're so bad!" or "Why are you even playing top?"

Is that player's behavior beneficial to the team? Of course not. Is the feeding player's behavior beneficial to the team? Even more so not, I'd say.

It causes me to question what is intentional or unintentional feeding. How is anyone to draw a line? Wouldn't not buying wards constitute as intentional feeding? Wouldn't walking to lane and dying over and over constitute as intentional feeding? It seems like the line is drawn as, "This player can't help but play poorly, so feeding is okay. However, an insulting player can help but insult his teammates, so it's not okay."

However, that statement isn't true both ways. A feeding player can help but constantly feed. What if an insulting player actually can't help but type their comment? Isn't a simple, "You're so bad!" just as resistible to type as dying for your 8th time in lane should be as easy to avoid?

Back to the circumstances of my particular game. The strange part is, the majority of the game seemed to agree to report our player (who was 15-2, doing what he could to carry the game, I know because I was in his lane supporting him) simply because he told the other player that he was bad (twice). The player who went 1-14 was not (I'm assuming, based on lobby chat response).

That's really puzzling to me. When you play that poorly, you shouldn't feel this self-entitlement where, "I'm allowed to completely ruin your game, but you aren't allowed to say a single bad thing to me." To me, the feeding player is more "toxic" than the one throwing a jab here and there. I just really don't understand the encouragement to report a player for making a comment about it, while the player ruining the game for 4 other people gets the pass because "he's just that bad." Thoughts?

Intentional feeding is when someone goes into a game, and intentionally lets the enemy kill them, as a conscious action. Having a shit game isn't bannable, nor should it be.

An intentional feeder is a bit more toxic than a rager, but a rager is far, far, far worse for the game than someone having a bad game.

I've gone 1-10 on riven against a nasus, causing me to forever avoid her. Was I intentionally feeding? No.

You shouldn't ever rage at teammates. Even if they ruin your game, intentionally or not, you shouldn't rage. I will side with a 1-13 against someone who bm's them over it, every single time.

Hell no. You try getting stomped in lane. You can sit behind tower, let them push to a t2, and try to cs. They will just tower dive you, take the tower and pressure a t3.

Yes. As long as Riot does not have a report unskilled option that will warrant inquiry after enough reports( ONLY for ranked. NOT normals.), Players should not be punished for a bad game.

It's all about context. Insults by themselves aren't against the rules unless they are excessive, personal or derogatory (racist, sexist, etc). Same thing with feeding or refusing to communicate. I think both are equally severe with harassment and verbal abuse.

The problem is context is entirely subjective and this community is absurdly immature, so people report for things that are ridiculous and often don't report the things they really should. The ADC who is split pushing the whole game instead of grouping while his team can't defend towers, who is saying he won't group? Refusing to communicate or assisting the enemy team. The Jax with TP up who has told you to defend and not fight while he pushes and draws pressure or takes free towers? Not his fault if you run out and engage 4v5 with the adc out front and dying before he can even finish the TP spell.

I've seen some really stupid things and I've been reported plenty of times when I didn't deserve it. I had a rough game the other day, my jungle was really screwing me over (gifting kills and buffs, not coming when I ping their jungle that's about to dive me from behind and instead farming the jungle camp right on the other side) I made one comment, not even a nasty one, something like "come on man, you're really screwing me over here, I needed help and you've gifted my lane several kills and left me to die when you could have helped". What happens? My team freaks out on me, harasses and insults me for the rest of the game (over 20 min) and then asks the enemy team to report me for verbal abuse. For ONE comment, the only thing I said basically the whole game. I reported them, but it was really uncalled for.

That's the type of people we play with every day, it's really unfortunate because it's a big part of why I don't play more solo queue. Even if it isn't usually directed at me I get sick of watching people rage and argue and throw games over the stupidest shit. I don't see a fraction of that in ranked 3s, it's still there sometimes but not nearly to the same degree. Riot needs to seriously fix the glaring issues with solo queue if they want to cut down on toxicity.
