When I download a replay where does the file go?

It's actually found in your My Documents folder - C:\Users\YourUsernameHere\Documents\League of Legends\Replays. You can read more specifics on that here; https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/developer-corner/2JWmR6sF-replays-are-live-in-the-new-client-faq-pro-tips?comment=000a00000000

Keep in mind that if you can't locate the match in your match history because it was played in a prior patch, you will be unable to load it up because it needs the same patch version that it was recorded from to play.

Ok so if I just saved it today I can open it. I've never tried to post a game video on YouTube before but this game warrants it. I need to know I can access this when I figure out how to record it.

There's a feature to record Highlights (in the webm format) while watching your replay, just hit Ctrl+V to start/stop the recording or use the red circle recording button on the left of the replay tray (where the pause etc. buttons are). You could use any other video recording software like OBS or FRAPS if you wanted.

You can change where those highlights are saved by going into your Settings > Replays page in the menu; while a rofl file (replay) cannot be played in the patches after it was made, webm files are raw video and can be viewed at any time (I recommend VLC for playback), and this file is what you'll upload to Youtube.

So the recorded files are webm? Or do I need an outside resource for that?

Replays are .rofls and can only be viewed through the client as a spectator match, but the Highlights you save when watching it (using Ctrl+V or the record button) are saved as webm files which can be played back through many video players or even your web browser (the webm Highlight is what you will upload to Youtube, it is a video).

Ok, I know I'm asking a million questions but one more lol. After I have all these highlights, how do I consolidate them into 1 file so people don't have to watch 12 separate posts.

You'd have to use a video editor. If you're on a Windows OS you should have the Windows Movie Maker, which works well enough for doing this. You can splice all of the individual highlights together before uploading them to Youtube (or wherever you'd like to put them).

Sweet. If I manage to successfully do all this I'll post a link you so you can see it [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

If you're making it to report a player's offenses, please don't post that on the boards. It'll get removed because Name & Shame isn't allowed to prevent drama and witch hunts (and we can't do anything about it here). You'll want to link it in a Support Ticket.

If it's just a video of sick outplays or funny mistakes/bugs, I look forward to it!

Yes it is sweet outplays. Also, the highlights saved are not supported by window's movie maker :|

Ah you're right. Microsoft support recommended a file converter here; https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-pictures/how-to-convert-webm-video-to-mp4aviwmv-etc/8bf7bdc3-a93a-41de-93d1-f9cb5d1806b7

There are probably some much better video editors you can get for free that can manage webm files, though I haven't used or researched any.

So I used this link and got Freemake Video converter. It appears as it would work but it doesn't seem to be able to read the webm files from the riot game. They still play fine in my client, but if I try to view it through that software I just get a blank 7 second screen.

Sorry that one didn't work out (damn you Windows support). I don't have any personal recommendations because I haven't been using any, so I can only suggest doing a search and trying out a few different options. I've inquired amongst some of Riot's player support for recommendations, if they have something I'll let you know.

Is there a way to convert it's file format, so that it can still be watchable later? Even if it's just static to view your champion, that'd be a nice improvement.

Deep Terror Nami1 votes

Currently, no. Replay files (.rofl) pull information from the client, but the client doesn't keep old version data around so an old replay won't be able to get what it needs, or what it does grab might be different than what it really was in the match. If you record a highlight (it could be the entire match) you can watch that at any time though since it's just raw video.

It might be possible to save a copy of the client somewhere else and direct your old replays from that version to play from it, but I haven't tested that yet.

Huh, hopefuly it's an added feature later on. A neat idea anyway, thanks.
