Im a little confused how this new Mastery system works

If you look at my history today (disregarding the coops and customs when I was fixing my internet) I did pretty well, so I got to collect a bit of data about the mastery system, and frankly I don't get it. I played a Malphite jungle game, going 8/5/21 and basically hard carrying my team to victory and got a B rank, but got an A+ for an 8/9/11 Kalista ADC game that I got carried by my mid laner in. I farmed rather well in my Malphite game, so it wasn't my Cs either (unless it thought I was solo lane malphite) I also got an A rank in a 2/12/16 Nunu support game that it thought I was a mage in. I'm confused D: Anyone else a bit confused on how it all works?

I carried my team but had more deaths than kills after a final push and got a D+ rating with a ton of mastery points. The whole system is illogical.

it compares it to other players playing that champion in that role, but you know it is new and iffy and really the system doesn't really effect the game so let riot iron out the kinks i guess
