Focusing on the Climb
Hey there boards friends, enemies and so forth. I just wanted to let everyone know I won't be making any major posts for a couple weeks probably. I know some people love my content, some hate it and some like to bring neutral discussion to it. But I won't be providing anything major for you to love, hate or discuss for a little while unless a specific problem arises I feel like inputting on(like perhaps the upcoming changes to Riven).
Everything from here on is a bit of me talking about myself and can be entirely ignored if you have zero interest.
#Focusing on the Climb There is one thing I have never done in League of Legends, or even attempted. And it is a big thing that most people would view as the cornerstone of League of Legends. Climbing in ranked. I have been playing the game since the week of October 18, 2011, S2 preseason when Xerath was on free week(he was my first played champion outside of the tutorial). Yet for one reason or another I have always put off climbing in ranked.
First it was ping. I don't feel like letting my teammates down because of a disconnect. Until S5 I had internet that was over 150 feet from my computer wireless. And it did not work very well. So I only played normals and usually as fairly safe picks like Teemo or Malz where I could farm safely in lane and use my game knowledge to overwhelm my ping destroying my reaction times. Or things like Soraka or Sona so I could just spam heals from safety and ward.
But even since then. I have had a couple major fears holding me back... One, I have a major wrist problem. Arthritis from both parents in combination with a wrist injury from martial arts. My hands can completely freeze if I use a keyboard and mouse a lot.
Two, a lot of high tier players seem incredibly toxic and bias. Understandable, they have put thousands of games a year into climbing and improving. You will grow bias and toxicity to some level during that time if you have no special immunity. I always feared ending up just one of those people who come on the boards to go 'OMFG Soraka is the most OP thing rito lern to vidya game u pce of sht!'.
Three, getting too dedicated to League. Something I use to be afraid of, but seeing how much time and effort I put into studying the game, statistics and champions to make boards posts... too late.
I have decided however that I am better than these limitations. I have also decided my ability to properly address gameplay posts is being held back by one factor, experience. I know the statistics, the design, the functionality and I can observe and study high tier play. But as a Silver player I have no experience of the feel of playing with and against comparatively better players. While feel isn't as important as fact, it still holds back my ability to express points properly. As such I have decided this year to actually try to climb, officially starting today. I am getting help with my wrist issue, it cannot be healed but it can be helped. I feel I am better than becoming bias or toxic, and I already love this game to death so getting more dedicated to actually playing it won't hurt.
#Should I actually climb https://na.op.gg/summoner/userName=Mira%20Arya%20Enthe So far things are looking pretty good. Though I should clearly stop playing Ashe lol. If I actually achieve any rank worth mentioning. I plan to make a series of detailed and comprehensive posts talking about my experience with each tier of play. From Bronze 5 which I was placed in, in S6 after doing placements. All the way up to wherever I get to in rank.
Wish me luck, I will need it. And let's see where an old, rusty but hopefully knowledgeable gamer can get herself by the end of season. Your boards friend(I hope), Mira Astria Traveler.
