Playing burst mages when behind

Burst mages rely heavily on their ability to burst down stuff.

I played a game as Lux where my bot lane and myself were behind while top and jungle were doing decent. I decided to go with some early magic resist with Abyssal Scepter because I was against a Syndra and the enemy had AP Gragas jungle.

Horrible mistake because I wasn't able to kill things with my CDs, thus wasn't able to help carry and we lost.

So when you play burst mages and are behind keep on building damage. Don't change your build because burst mages really rely on damage. Instead change how you play and try to play safer.
