What are champions that can make things happen

So before I start I realize Im not very good at this game, Im trying to get better tho. Something that really bugs me in games is when a team fight is about to start and the ADC is farming bottom or someone is grabbing a buff. It always seems like we get initiated on and we get stomped. Or we have all 5 of us mid and no one does anything we are just pacing back and forth waiting for something to happen. I really love playing support thresh and leona because i feel like i can get things started or stop a fight from happening. I really enjoy most supports for this reason but as far as other roles I play singed top mostly because I like being tanky and running around getting a flip on a carry. It seems like more often the not i just get cced to death and the team fight is over before it starts. So I guess my question is what are some other champions in other roles besides Support that can start a team fight or at least have the ability to fight 3v5 if needed. I really love playing support but i can always get it. The type of champions I usually play are tanky all in champions that are mostly spell based.
