Show people's rank in thext of instead of Icon. I can't see the icons, and "level 30 is meaningless.

Everyone is level 30 it seems by the time they write on these boards. We all lock people up anyway. Depending on what someone is talking about I feel I need to know their experience level. I would like to know when their account was created but I guess that isn't as telling as if they play ranked and they are commenting on competitive play. I know some might use it for shaming but these arguments about abuse and exploitation are pretty thin to me. I pay little attention to them. I would like to be able to highlight a persons name in a thread and know what division he is in. It would be a time saver. Am I alone?

If the person's correct about something then he is no matter what skill level/rank he is in right?

So I wouldn't say pasting people's rank right next to them is generally a good idea, since well, apparently classicism is already a thing in these forums and I don't wish to make the matters any worse.

EDIT: And we already have a feature similar to what you're asking for, you just need to hover your cursor over the person's name, a small division icon will show up at the bottom of the pop up if he was above Silver in the previous seasons I believe. But still I am against pasting it right next to player's name though.

Often the discussion at hand is not a subjective truth. Tips and tricks is a matter of opinion. Misc is often a bunch of stuff. If you are talking about game play and balance it helps to know at what level you are so I know where you are coming from. Gold 1 and higher should be in a different system all together. They are the truly competitive. They should have different requirements for being the those level and their opinions and game play style is different. Telling me what LCS premades do has nothing to do with bronze solo queue. Its not about shame.

So, because I'm unranked, I'm incapable of recognizing potential abuse cases or highly exploitable systems? Does that mean my rank is a necessary extension of my critical thinking and problem solving skills, as well as my intelligence?

Because that seems strange to me.

You are mashing together two different arguments. There is the "this is a bad idea. Bold facing people's ranks will only lead to shaming." And then there is the "You think my opinion doesn't matter cause of my rank?" argument. Which one do you care about and which one shall I tackle?

Either I misread your comment regarding abuse and exploitation, or you edited it to clarify. Regardless of which, I apologize for my misunderstanding of your intent.

Nevertheless, I still do not agree with your proposal. The validity of a person's argument should be determined based on the content of that argument, rather than that person's qualities. And while it's certainly true that those qualities often inform a person's arguments, it's fallacious to dismiss the argument because of who it comes from.

Or, to put that a shorter way: I believe that such a system, if implemented, would serve to deny - rather than encourage - active and positive discussion and effective communication.

That's what I wrote to another guy. Somethings are true or false like math, somethings are better or worse like cooking. When speaking on math and science the argument stands for itself though it would be nice to get a consensus from experts. If I ask you what taste good, you might be Bobby Flay but what you do doesn't taste good to me. Objectivity and subjectivity are real things. "Consider the source" is not necessarily an insult or fallacious. The internet just happens to be an evil place. My request was not inherently malicious.

And that's certainly true, though I don't think it speaks to my point. Even in the case of subjective discussion, the clarity and strength of a person's argument should be based on the argument itself, rather than any aspect of the person making the argument.

If their point is invalid, meaningless, or useless to you, that should be apparent regardless of their rank. If it's valid, meaningful, or useful, it should be considered regardless of their rank.

But bringing rank to the forefront like that runs the risk of low-ranked (or unranked!) players being completely dismissed regardless of the content of their posts. It also runs the risk of high-ranked players having too much weight applied to their posts, regardless of the content.

This is not to say that I believe it's a malicious idea, or that you had malicious intent - if I seemed to imply such, I apologize. Rather, I think it's a well-intentioned idea that, unfortunately, carries more potential negatives than potential positives.

No offense, but I see enough of "you're bronze" in response to any disagreement whatsoever.

It's one thing when someone complains about a champion being OP when they play something like smite+TP+ item 3085 Nami on a regular basis (and NEVER do well), but generally I think rank is a bad idea to display here.

You see, during discussions—unless people's specific ranks come into play—it should be the content of the discussion, not one's rank. This will only encourage ad hominem, "attack the man" so to speak, rather than thought. Who knows, a Bronze V could realize something that slipped past a Diamond I's eyes.
