Can someone tell me why I was playing against a D5 player when I'm only in silver?
It was only a norms but still? It kind of ruins my experience when the enemy team has a diamond player when the rest of us are high bronze to low gold players.

The mmr in normal matches is different from the mmr in ranked matches. It's quite possible to have a higher mmr in one than the other, and the matchmaking will still try to make the overall game even up. Prior to the ranked reset, I was playing with only golds/plats/diamonds in my normal matches and was ranked at Bronze 3 or 4 at the time. That diamond player may have a low mmr for normal matches, or he might have been duo/grouped with lower ranked players. You may also have a relatively high normal mmr. And, since the soft reset on ranks at the end of last season, the system is still evening itself back out for players who don't necessarily play a ton of matches.
If you are in the habit of checking the ranks prior to the match starting, try to not let it intimidate you if you see someone in a higher division. It's just a normal match, and it's still meant to be fun, so do the best you can. If they are playing really well compared to your team, see if there is anything you can learn from them. If they are not playing that much better than your team, then you had nothing to worry about.
And if you just check the ranks after the match because you are wondering why one of your team was rather crushed by their counterpart, take heart in that the discrepancies are more uncommon than common. And it's another situation where you can always look for ways to make your gameplay better. Maybe look for ways to roam/gank for that teammate, or at least look for a way to run damage control before the enemy gets too out of control.
You answered your own question. In norms rankd stat have no value
