Riot, you've had 5 years.

No more excuses. You could have written a new version of the engine, launcher and Windows during that time.

Where is sandbox mode? Where are the other competitive maps? You know, HotS has sandbox mode (of sorts) and 7 viable competitive maps, Dota 2 has a map editor. What have you even been doing all this time?

I blame the mindless sheep who populate this game and just keep buying RP regardless of what riot does, why would they bother making anything that would make their game actually good? They've found the best equilibrium of bare minimum effort and maximum payoff and they're just going to ride the wave until people wake up to this and riot fades into irrelevance (hopefully soon). What other company takes a 5 month sabbatical to watch nerds playing at a tournament? It's like they're taking the piss, they do sweeping changes before worlds, and when it all goes to shit "oh we'll nerf it after worlds" (or never in most cases with their small pool of untouchable champions).

You could make a list longer than a landing strip with all the things riot doesn't do that competitors do with gusto, and yet this is still the premier MOBA game for some reason. My guess is it came first, so lots of people had time to get suckered out of hundreds of dollars and thousands of hours from this awful company and game, and so they're beyond the point of quitting as the sunk cost fallacy sinks its claws into them. One day they'll see the error of their ways, maybe their favorite champ will get mangled beyond recognition by some incompetent intern thinking up a rework idea in traffic the morning before work.

While I would like to see more content, they've been working on the game harder than you can imagine. There may only be one competitive map, but they've put a damn good effort into making it the best they can.

They could have, sure. If they didn't have to keep the game running, patched, and updated in the meantime. It's much easier to develop a game from scratch (HotS) than it is to rewrite an existing one that's currently live.

Think of it like this. Building a new game is like assembling a car in a factory. You have all the tools, equipment, and time you need to focus on the whole project, go through all the engineering details, and get it done exactly the way you want it. Trying to completely overhaul League is like trying to completely rebuild a car while you're still using it. You have to be a lot more careful, a lot more knowledgeable, and need a lot more equipment, and it's going to take longer and cost more, because you still need the car to function even while you're working on it.

I won't even get in to comparing the juggernauts that are Blizzard and Valve to a mid-level company like Riot.
