Maokai was really strong during the IBG/Sunfire meta in the spring.

Skins take time to make. Therefore, Riot selected the champion probably in April or May so they would have the skin done and tested on time.

What a bunch of scumbags, I don't understand how a huge company like Riot takes so long to make a skin

Considering they have to:

  • Determine the initial design (model and splash art, theme, quotes)
  • Revise the design (multiple times)
  • Implement the design (creating the model, textures, animations, particles)
  • Create the splash art
  • Record all quotes for the skin
  • Test (and test and test and test)

I'm not really surprised it takes them that long, especially considering the quality of the skins being released.

To be honest I think it takes a month of make a skin once planning is done, I think planning would take at max a week! I have a friend who has been doing animation since highschool and I've seen her make 3D models and it doesn't take her long to make it if she focuses on it, animations take a long time I understand that part, especially special effects
