Because when I see games like Dota 2 have a sandbox mode, free champions, tons of customization for said champions, fan made game modes, and other things that I can't think of because it just has all this cool stuff...
...well, League seems kinda barebones by comparison. But Hextech Crafting has a chance to be the really cool thing that Dota 2 doesn't have.
disregardable1 votesIf you'd rather play Dota 2, go play it. Riot isn't trying to compete with Dota 2. People don't usually go from one Moba to a different one, they'll quit the genre altogether. It's too much investment to try to break into another one.

Citation needed. Who says nobody does that? I know of a few popular youtube personalities that left League and went to go play Smite instead.
But I like League. I like the meticulous work that goes into making champions both ascetically pleasing and fun to play. But League is quickly being left in the dust by new games that are innovating. I think we would all appreciate if League did more to catch up, and Hextech Crafting is a good start.
Now, I don't deny that Hextech is MAINLY a business ploy to get people that are addicted to RNG loot to throw their disposable income at the game, but it's still something.
