So the Hextech Crafting system looks like a great way for people that generally don't spend money on the game to get some free stuff. I think that's excellent. It's really not the kind of thing a free to play game usually does, and Riot should be commended.

But hang on a second, from what I read, you get chests when either you or somebody in your premade party (more on that in a minute) achieves an S rank after a match. To which I refer you to the image I linked of my most recent support game with Taric. Game ends at 26 minutes, I'm at 0/1/18, and all I get is an A rank.

To put it in perspective, here's a game from about 4 months ago with support Tahm.

http://oi63.tinypic.com/vy8gsg.jpg

Game ends at 20 minutes, my score is 3/0/10, I get an S rank. Is it just me, or has achieving an S rank been made deliberately more difficult so that people don't get chests for free nearly as much as they should.

And another thing, people that are in premade groups are going to have a higher drop rate for keys after winning a match. That just straight up punishes people that play alone.

So no, I don't think Riot is as generous as they seem with this new crafting system. Right now, it seems that Riot is demanding absolute perfection if you want to earn a free chest. Not to mention they're also demanding that you have friends to play with if you want higher drop rates.

The way I see it, going from "not getting free stuff" to "getting free stuff with a high difficulty" is still them offering free stuff. Complaining that you "can't get the free stuff" easily is kind of rude in my opinion. It's like someone offered you cake and you spit in their face because the icing wasn't your favorite flavor and then proceeded to eat the cake anyway... :/

Game time matters a ton. Ending the game extremely quickly is almost always a guaranteed S rank. I'd also guess that, 4 months ago, the average Tahm player was garbage so getting higher ranks on him was easier. Remember, the score is based on your performance compared to the average on that champion. That means for champions like Yi that regularly get lot's of kills, you often need to get 20+ kills with very low deaths to get an S.

Add some people youve played with, make a premade. This is a team game even though youre told by everyone YOU need to be the carry thus turning it into a more solo minded game. Thank you Dynamic Queue for reminding everyone League is team based!

The score is based on how well you have been doing with a specific champion, so if you play a lot of Taric, you have to do extremely well in order to make a better grade. Likewise, doing worse then average on the champion can earn you a less then average score.

Also, you are a support, and don't have the red trinket, which is a pretty vital item for a support to be able to deny enemy vision. That could possibly be a contributing factor

Okay, fair enough, but notice that I'm only rank 2 mastery with Taric. I've just been playing him a bit now before the rework happens. But then, he's not that difficult, so it's a moot point.

As for your second point, yes, I agree I should've had the red trinket.

I have also noticed that certain stats make it easier to grab the coveted S rank. KS-ing on supports is one of those ways; I kid you not.

Give this a shot. Not KS-ing but politely asking your adc in norms to secure a couple or so kills. See if that changes something. Place lots of wards as well.

This is suppose to premote team work and grouping thats all it is and with a way to get free champs in the process, so i wouldn't be mad or upset mate, this is the best we have, or im sure if people bitch enough we can go back to having no reward system and have to play endless games to get a champs

I've played quite a few games on the PBE lately and it felt like it was easier to get S-ranks than ever. Pretty sure I was able to get said S rank while having TERRIBLE CS, which normally is one of the biggest factors towards getting one. And no, I wasn't support. Support ranks are weird.

So what you're telling me is, a company that has made you pay for skins for 6 years is now offering a difficult, but still possible, way to get these things for free, and you're complaining about not just being handed them like TF2?

You may not be, but I'm stoked for this new system. I won't be spending money on it (I rarely buy things in game; most of my skins are gifts) but I'll certainly be excited if I get a drop.

Achieving an S rank becomes increasingly difficult with the more mastery points you have on the champion. Playing new champions and being immediately good at them is a great way to get S ranks.

DorkunedAuras2 votes

not really, I have 150k+ mastery in rek'sai and I still get semi-regular S+ rankings.

S rank is determined by both champion and position. The requirements to be in the top 10% for tahm and the top 10% for Taric are going to be different, and, on top of that, they are going to be dynamic.

Not to mention all you have to do is have someone on your team get an S rank to get a chest, you don't even have to do it yourself.

It's not going to be all that bad.

Getting S Rank is not about the score you get, its about how good that score is compared to other Taric players/tahm players/other players of that champion.

FOR EXAMPLE, if the average Veigar goes 6/2/10, as an example, going 6/2/10 gives you maybe a B+ or A-. If you go 20/1/12 as Veigar, you will likely get an S since your performance is MUCH higher than the average Veigar player.

In your example, a 3/0/10 Tahm at the time was a hard thing to get (believe it or not) and you therefore achieved a S. With Taric, now, going 1/0/18 is just above average, giving you an A. Im not surprised since Taric has a lot of natural auras to rack up a lot of assists. Basically, going 1/0/18 as Taric is only average based on what players are currently achieving with him, while 3/0/10 as Tahm was very, very good 4 months ago. It is also based on position as well, so going 3/0/10 as Support Tahm might give you the same rank as going 3/0/10 Top Tahm. Its all based on the averages.

  1. I agree that the S rank system is off.
  2. The idea of the premade is as i see it the way to deter chances of trolls and flamers as you choose who to play with and give you an insensitive to do so.

S rank takes more than just a good/bad KDA, ive been SInged and done nothing but have an about even KDA and 400 or so cs and still get S

BastionKross1 votes

That just straight up punishes people that play alone.

So does dynamic queue, and the bonus IP awards. Riot has decided to make SoloQ a better experience by doing everything they can to make you not play it while not actually deleting it as an option (since a team of four NEEDS a solo guy to tortureteam with).

And what the hell Riot? You unlock this stuff with S ranks? That means you can only get it in modes that acknowledge champion mastery. So if you play bots, or ARAM, or Twisted Treeline, or Dominion you're SOL. Unless they plan on giving those queues champion mastery as well, which they should have done in the first place. You don't have to play a champion on summoner's rift to be really good at that champion.

DeathBurst1 votes

It's just that kills count too much for rank, that 3 kills on Tahm got you the S rank, and with 0 kill you didn't get it with Taric, even with 18 assists.

rtbf2256182411 votes

The ratings are based on your region's average champion performance. S rank means you played at a level comparable to the best.

La Barbotte1 votes

arent the ranking based on the average of everygame with this champion ? meaning you get S for doing way better than an average taric game, and D if you sucked that said ''D''

I still get S- consistently.

I actually like the idea that an 'S' rank is hard to acquire. When I get a chest, I want it to feel like I'm earning it. If you think that getting an S rank is too hard, I recommend you make that your main impetus of this thread; however, with your current discussion do you realize you sound incredibly ungrateful? Riot is not impelled to give us anything. Further, why is it every time Riot does something nice, like give out extra rp/exp or events like this, people find a way to turn it back on them? I honestly do not understand.

First, I have no idea when Riot has ever given out extra RP, and I've played this game for years.

Second, I'm not ungrateful, but you have to realize. Chests and keys will be available for purchase as well as being free drops. And while after reading a lot of these posts I'm no longer convinced that Riot has made getting S ranks more difficult to severely limit free drops, the fact remains that some people are addicted to RNG loot style systems. They open a box, and the crave more. So they buy more. I'm predicting that this new system is going to earn them a buttload of cash due to the people that are addicted to RNG loot.

So don't get it twisted. Make no mistake here, Riot is looking out for themselves. Generosity is not even a factor.

Getting an S demands you play a perfect game though? (Compared To the position you play sed champ and how well You do Compared to the average of Every other champ)

So let's say top tarics generally get 5/0/15

You play top Taric and go 2/0/7 You think you did perfect, but you didn't. You did alright but you didn't reach the average "perfect"'score or beat it

Sohleks1 votes

Well you only start with 4 crates available with one refreshing every week. You only need to worry about you or one of your buddies getting S 4 times in an entire month.

CircleKat11 votes

Rezandra, I'm sorry if I came off a bit harsh. I realize you were only trying to explain your position, though I would argue your title already casts your post in a specific light.

Your arguments that an S rank is harder to obtain may very well be correct. Further, your statement that Riot wants to sell loot is also very correct; however, how is that a BAD thing? They are simply a company that wants to make money. Broken down, that is exactly why companies are formed.

its not suppose to be easy to get an S rank, and im pretty sure your letter grade is based on more then your KDA.
