Shaming Gold Players?

Rezandra··18 votes·2,020 views

Bronze has always gotten a bad rep for being a trash heap that's impossible to climb out of without some Jesus in your life. I think Silver is fairly referred to as a good starting point for most players. But recently, I've started hearing people make passive aggressive jabs at Gold players and how it's barely an accomplishment.

I dunno about all of you elitists, but when I finally made Gold for the first time last season, I was happy as hell. I felt like I had endured numerous trials and tribulations and achieved something that I had put my mind to.

This is the hardest game I've ever played in my life. How can anybody shame somebody that has achieved Gold after working so hard for it and not feel like a shitty person? It takes so much time and patience to climb in this game. Trolls, feeders, disconnects, toxicity, and balancing that can turn on a dime and catch you by surprise. Ranked is an endurance, and if you have the skill and patience to cope with it, then you deserve a friggen medal.

I will not stand for anybody talking shit about Gold. If you've made Gold, be proud of yourself. You've conquered odds that are quite frankly, immensely stacked against you. If your aim goes even higher, I wish you the best. Wish me the same as well.

They're honestly jealous that someone else is having more success than them. So by putting you down, it makes them feel better about their low rank.

Ignore them and keep climbin.

Knoyle1 votes

I think It's more people higher than gold are saying gold is shit. You know Diamonds, Plats, etc. I personally only have a problem with gold players when they try to use it as a point that they are automatically correct over me. I've seen gold players play and I've played with some. I've gotten fed off a few and seen some feed. Don't misunderstand I'm just saying your rank doesn't automatically justify the point you are trying to make.

Dreadlocks2 votes

When i see bronze 5 players try to make a post about balance, i use my rank and their rank in the argument.. It actually does play a big role in some situations..

Knoyle1 votes

except Rank literally has nothing to do with knowledge of the game. You can be the best player at a game and not know what makes anything tic. I'm the best player at Smash in my neighborhood but I don't know any of the numbers. Just how to play.

BluePolarizer3 votes

League is not a strictly mechanical game so game knowledge is indeed correlated with rank. There's at least 50 challengers who are mechanically weak (maybe only mid-diamond level) but strategically strong.

Knoyle2 votes

But when discussing things like balance how does knowing your shit about strategy apply as opposed to knowing the mechanics? This isn't a disagreement question. I want to hear your response because you seem to be giving me intelligent thought out responses.

BluePolarizer2 votes

ok. For instance it is almost impossible for Amumu to outduel Lee Sin with equal gold and Lee Sin farms faster than Amumu. Why is Amumu's win rate not 0% against Lee Sin? Why is Lee Sin not the god tier anti-Amumu pick? Is that not super OP?

Answer: because strategy. You can avoid interacting with Lee Sin until you have enough gold and exp to turn teamfights. That's strategy: instead of looking for fights and mechanically outperforming the opponent in fights, you ask the question: should I even be fighting at all?

Knoyle1 votes

Right, I understand that. But I mean to say that Knowledge and Skill are not always one in the same. Like on paper Annie may have more burst than Lux however looking at the numbers you see Lux has a huge range advantage. However, the skill comes in play when actually taking this analysis in the game. If Lux is horrible she's going to get destroyed even if it is a favorable match up for her.

It's like knowing WHAT the counter is as opposed to actually knowing HOW to counter.

Dreadlocks2 votes

I disagree, if bronze 5 players knew the game as well as they preached they wouldn't be in bronze 5.

Knoyle1 votes

And the players who stay out of ranked because they hate it but are actually good at the game?

Dreadlocks1 votes

Hey if they arnt proving themselves that's their choice.

Awful lot of challengers in GD. :^)

Many skilled players actually stop at gold simply because of time constraints. Higher than gold means you are forced to play ranked to keep your current rank or you decay. Each game lasts 30-45 minutes on average and for one match you get 20-ish lp on average per win. They climb to gold and don't play anymore ranked just for season rewards because the maintenance for plat+ is inconvenient for them.

Not everyone has the time to play 8+ hours per day to retain their skill level and rank. There are probably even silver players that could climb much higher but they don't have the time to grind for hours every day to climb that high. Each game of League is a time commitment. Personally I play hearthstone and place legend most every season. It's way less of a time-sink.

Not trying to discredit very high elo players because they ARE good. I'm just saying it's not ALWAYS due to lack of skill if someone can't climb.

Rezandra1 votes

Surely it's not as bad as playing 8+ hours per day just to stay in Plat? If so, there's no way in hell I can keep that up. This game would kill me without a doubt.

That's total bullshit and you know it. You only need to play one game a month to prevent decay and you have 10 game shield at 0 lp before you demote back to gold. If you're plat in March, there's no way you drop to gold if you play one game a month.

If you play one game per month then you aren't honing your skills and most likely WILL drop to gold since your mechanics and skill are deteriorating. It's not just the elo decay. This becomes more of an issue the higher elo you are. I used 8+ hours as the far end of the spectrum i.e Master/Challenger. This was simply an example. Let me reiterate.

You cannot play 1 game per month and stay in platinum unless you belong in a higher division. In which case this holds true anyway. Rank maintenance isn't limited to winning games only. It is directly correlated with your skill level and retaining it by practice. You aren't getting much practice with 1 game per month. So actually..no that is not "total bullshit".

The OP said "stay in plat". It doesn't matter if your skill level is at plat or not, as long as you make it to plat you only need to play one game a month in ranked to stop yourself from decaying.

No where in there does OP even mention the word "Plat" Were you referring to my reply? Yes, theoretically on paper playing one game per month will keep you there but again..you will eventually get rusty and drop games with that lack of practice in Plat and higher. You are also assuming that they win most of their games.

You were responding to OP's reply to my comment. Therefore I'm replying to you since you think it's "Total Bullshit" which is ironic because this particular claim seems to fit the shoe.

Bronze Silver Gold <---- Platinum Diamond Master Challenger

If you list it that way you can see that Gold is still not even halfway through to being called good. Is it a personal achievement? Sure is, it was for me too. Is it still more or less garbage? Yup.

Chickendoodles9 votes

Except only 30% of the player base made gold+ last season. It isn't linear but rather a curve of skill. So please keep making yourself look ignorant.

Lauchmelder1 votes

I'm very ignorant, especially because I call the league I played in last season trash. Gold isn't good, the difference between a silver 3 and a Gold 5 is literally non existent. In Terms of a CS a silver 3 might have 130 in 20 minutes, a Gold 5 has maybe 135 at 20.

GrumpyButtercup3 votes

Do you really believe the diarrhea you spew from that mouth? It looks like someone's never passed an advanced math course or statistics.

Your garbo logic would then suggest there are no Silver 3 players because they are all Gold 5. Then how come so many people are still trapped in Silver? You speak with no knowledge. lolsummoners it.

Mathematically, a silver 3 has 200 MMR lower than a gold 5. That means a gold 5 should have about a 60-70% win rate against a silver 3.

Chicken is correct for the record. The amount of players in the tiers tend to decrease exponentially the higher tier you are. Sincerely, Drowned By Nami Nami Main since release Season 5 was plat 1(ranked top 100 globally for Nami) Season 6 gold 1 and climbing

CaptnJakSparrow2 votes

Regardless of what anyone says.

Gold is in fact an accomplishment lol.

Being in the top 30% in anything is a major accomplishment.

People in LEague call that trash

But if you were to have stats like that in the real world? Almost anyone would hire you/want you on something.

I may call gold "dumpster quality." Because to me it is. I ping to ward in these X places so that when the dipshit walks by on the enemy team to clear x I can kill him. You think they have any idea about what I'm talking about? Nope. They're still busy trying to make LCS big plays . . . under their turret . . . losing to ap Garen. It's not their fault. I don't even feel bad. It took me a long time to figure out how to get out of there. Numerous champs, numerous trial and errors.

I still even think plat is absolute trash. I've made it all the way to diamond promos and still run into Caitlyn's that E into the fed Irelia then wonder how they died. But the reason why I call it trash is far different than most people expect. It's because it's the silver of upper mmr.

You've got:

  1. Scripters.

  2. People that belong.

  3. People riding a win streak.

  4. Boosted.

  5. Smurfs.

  6. Diamond/challenger players grinding back up.

  7. A superfluous amount of one trick ponies.

Combine this all together and you got a cesspool of stupidity that turns into watching a bunch of brain dead chipmunks shot up with meth try to bake a cake.

Don't let anyone fool you though. It doesn't magically change when you hit diamond 5.

Or diamond 4.

Or Diamond 3.

Or Diamond 2.

Or Diamond 1.

OR Master.

Or Challenger.

The only difference is it gets harder and harder to carry the fucking retard that somehow got there, and once the retard gets there once, it's easier and easier to get back there. Last season I started in bronze 4. Didn't even reach plat until like August. I'm already plat 3/2 on two accounts. I didn't even really have to try, aside from the special snowflake warriors that pissed me off with their trolling.

To be honest, you can get to gold while being carried every game, probably even low platinum. Past that, all five players typically need to be better than the other team (while the game is in a reasonable state of balance, anyway..) to win.

GrumpyButtercup1 votes

What shoddy logic. In what world do you get carried every game? Are you playing in a 5 man DQ every time?

Gold is the heaviest metal for a reason.

you have to be careful in gold, you're on the border of being good, but many people in gold think they're at diamond/challenger level, and do not look internally for failings when they lose.

its that much easier to blame others.

ElysMustache1 votes

Gold is not the heaviest metal.

For example, tungsten is about 50% heavier than gold.

Gold is an awesome accomplishment! I hit Diamond last season after many years of struggling, but in season 3 I was stuck in silver and played hundreds of games to achieve that Gold goal before the season ended. It takes work to get to Gold, your actually in like the top 20% of players if you make it that far!

I think its pretty dumb to call people bad even in bronze. Everyone has their own level of experience in everything. Buddy of mine is in Bronze right now and he has a degree in astrophysics. It's really not a matter of raw talent and skill, but dedication and willingness to improve. Trust me I started (near) the bottom and now I'm in the top 2% of players nationwide. I don't attest any of my ability to talent, its because I have nearly 5000 ranked matches played that I've grown from.

Baby Ghoul1 votes

There's really not that much of a difference between most Gold and Silver players, but on here we're supposed to act like there is.

In reality the only difference is you get a victorious skin. You can look at your games and you'll probably see you're matched with many silver players, maybe the occasional plat 5 or bronze 1.

You should be proud of trying your best regardless of your ELO. However reaching Gold doesn't automatically make you more knowledgeable or a better player though. Gold players are right behind Plat in terms of ego I've found.

Cruk1 votes

I'm in plat, and I'm fully aware I'm still garbage, every game I play i see so many mistakes i make, and think about how I could of done things differently, were all garbage together until high diamond.

Also retaining rank in plat is not even remotely hard due to "time constraints" you literally don't decay until a whole month of not playing, so just play 1 game a month.
