Hey all, I don’t know if you heard but Time Warner and Comcast are increasing the lease cost of their cable modem by 33% to $8/month (from $5.99) (comcast even $10/month) That means that per year you pay $96 for modem lease/year. (comcast $120/year) I therefore recommend to buy the current top modem from amazon at a cost of $89.99 It pays for itself in only 11 months (comcast 9 months) Read up on it and make your own decision!

Here is a link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00AJHDZSI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

As someone in an article about the new fees wrote:

“But the bottom line is the you shouldn't be paying a monthly fee at all for a modem because you can get a higher quality modem than what your cable company is renting you, and it'll pay for itself in under a year.”

Here’s the article: http://gizmodo.com/5948616

Cheers!

edit: pls upvote and bump so as many ppl as possible see this! cheers!

Also note if you do lease a modem at least do yourself the service of upgrading it every one or two years. Holding on to a 2 year old modem when you're paying for the most current one is just silly.

The people who work at the cable company may try to give you a hard time for it, but if you go there informed with the name of the modem you want and you're polite they won't turn you down. Do your research! It's important to know what you want.

To anyone that has Comcast or Xfinity as their isp, stop! Just stop! Get literally any other isp, and your life will be significantly improved. There are very few, if any, worse companies in America.

I have that modem and can attest that it is a good one. Paid about $75 for it a couple years ago, though.

Also, just because you are a teen and dont pay for your own interwebs doesnt mean this doesnt apply to you! Tell your parents! Remember that you not only save a couple bucks per year, but you also get the current top model router!
