To all LoL Players who have TWC and Comcast as their ISP

Hey all, I don’t know if you heard but Time Warner and Comcast are increasing the lease cost of their cable modem by 33% to $8/month (from $5.99) (comcast even $10/month) That means that per year you pay $96 for modem lease/year. (comcast $120/year) I therefore recommend to buy the current top modem from amazon at a cost of $89.99 It pays for itself in only 11 months (comcast 9 months) Read up on it and make your own decision!

As someone in an article about the new fees wrote:

Also note if you do lease a modem at least do yourself the service of upgrading it every one or two years. Holding on to a 2 year old modem when you're paying for the most current one is just silly.

The people who work at the cable company may try to give you a hard time for it, but if you go there informed with the name of the modem you want and you're polite they won't turn you down. Do your research! It's important to know what you want.

true! and this is another huge reason why you should buy your own! Not only do you save $, but the modems leased out by cable companies are often 3 generations old. So you are paying more for older tech!

for example: the modem i had until yesterday was a Motorolla Arris cm820. that modem was released in 2011. The lease price remains the same, no matter how outdated your modem is!

That's only half true.

The first time you comment on someone's thread, it DOES increase the thread's visibility. The second time and each time after that, not so much.

So, think of it like, you can bump, but only once. But, I'd hate to see threads filled with 'BUMP' spam, so try to actually say something in your comment, please. xD

To anyone that has Comcast or Xfinity as their isp, stop! Just stop! Get literally any other isp, and your life will be significantly improved. There are very few, if any, worse companies in America.

some people just dont have the luxury, man! In my town, time warner is the only internet cable provider. They have the monopoly. Windstream's fastest service here is 24 down, but i heard windstream isn't as stable as cable is.

I can't speak for Windstream, but I'd still choose them over Time Warner. If they give you a tenth of what TW advertises, you'll still be getting more bandwidth and stability than you would have. If any case, I'd recommend moving to somewhere more civilized.

surprisingly my bandwidth is pretty stable. The biggest gripe i have is the price gouging. i pay around $80 for 30dl/5ul We are a town of roughly 250k inhabitants The next city which is 60 miles away has 1.2mio inhabitants. there, you pay $30 for 50dl/5ul

Time Warner jacks the price up because they have the monopoly.

I have that modem and can attest that it is a good one. Paid about $75 for it a couple years ago, though.

well, its not that i am a motorolla rep XD I posted the link because that's one of the better modems out there for a price that pays for itself within a year if you take into account the modem lease rates.

I made this post for the reason that i am disgusted with ISP greed. Increasing lease rates by over 30% is ridiculous.

I want gamers on this forum to be aware that they can save themselves $ by getting their own modem. These modems are simple pieces of hardware. If a modem lasts 2 years, you just saved yourself over $100 in lease cost! I want people to be aware of that!

Oh man, I totally get your reasoning. It drives me crazy - I have so many friends that complain about their internet and its pricing, then come to find out they've had a POS modem/router combo they've been paying for since 5 years ago. I was mainly just pointing out that people may find it cheaper elsewhere and to shop around. That modem is awesome.
