Help! I need a degree!
Mostly for me but for anyone else, I'm at that crossroads of trying to figure out a college degree. There's a lot of options. Many more intense than others to get. If it helps, I'm in Florida, hoping to go to FAU.
I've always had a love for animation. Games, cartoons, movies, anything artistic, not just as a fan, but with the pipe dream of making it. Unfortunately I have little to no skill in that currently. Whether by hand, or computer. That's a part of the crossroads. Animating seems like a cool thing to learn, but there has to be a degree that follows. There's not many animating degrees, and I'm not sure it's practical to want something that specific.
I can go into graphic design, which has animating, or at least drawing skills. It's also the most art intensive, requiring me to have a huge portfolio just to work for my bachelors. If I get it though, it opens the doors to new jobs, but also competition.
I can choose programming. I have to know code to design action yes? Learning it is the most practical, but also math intensive. I need a computer science degree, something I'm far away from with my AA. Also the degree in my school requires math that I'm bluntly hopeless to learn.
There's multimedia studies. At this school, I can specialize in media studies instead of journalism. I get to learn the history and culture of digital arts. I can also dabble into animating and I believe an introduction into game programming. It's also the seemingly least course intensive. I can learn a bit about games depending on my choices.
I'm leaning towards studies, but I'm not sure how pratical it is. I'd rather not be unemployed because it's not the most useful. Assuming of course. Maybe I can be a manager, or a problem solver on a team.
