In Recognition of Those QQ threads
Hey guys, let me start of by saying this is my personal opinion; it is one that I have held from the start of my life in League of Legends, and one that I still think is very valid. This is not a hate post or anything like that, and I'm not even salty about anything (honestly). The point of this is more or less to just say what I think to anyone who I see typing "OMG Rito pls nerf x!" or "ffs Rito, Y is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to oppressive to be balanced". Now, don't misinterpret what I'm about to say as saying "No changes are necessary to any champion right now (especially not someone who was like
with a >95% ban rate a few seasons ago)," rather I'm trying to express that maybe you as a player aren't in the position to make that sort of judgment based on some things. Most people can agree that there are folks in Plat who don't belong there, Golds that don't belong in Gold, etc. You know, those guys who make you say "How in the world did you get to ____ rank?" I've thought that and so have you, so don't give me that look :P
In addition, most people can say that people in Plat or Diamond or Challenger (the ones who actually deserve to be there) actually know what they're talking about in terms of builds, champion strengths and weakness, how to win games, etc. Most of the popular League streamers aren't Silver, in case you didn't know that (but I know you did, because you're a well-informed gamer who wants to get better all the time right? :D). The point of my discussion here is that if you complain that a champion is "OP" or "need nerfs for X pls", but you have never gotten out of Bronze 2 (no hate on the Bronzies though, life can be hard sometimes; my generalization is anyone who hasn't actually attained a highly respectable elo), it probably has more to do with you not being a good enough player to understand what you should be doing against X champion. Some exceptions are obvious (cough,
this guy a little while ago, cough), but not every champion can be exempted from this. I have no interest in discussing each champion that is "OP" simply because I probably don't play that champion enough or against them to make that judgment call, and I am most certainly not exempted from the statement above. I have never darkened the door of Gold. Will I ever? Maybe, if I get better at the game and take it more seriously. Have I ever called a champion "OP" or "stupid", oh yeah of course. Was my judgment justified? Probably not in the majority of situations. Every champion can seem "OP" in the hands of a good player, so just think about that next time you want to jump on here and explain to Riot why they are "horrible at balancing and their jobs".
Tl;dr (I would prefer you read the whole thing to understand my reasoning, but it's okay :D ) If you are below Plat in your rank (not counting you guys who don't do ranked, I'll let you pass on this one because I don't know you and you don't know me, let's keep it that way :P), you have no right to complain that a champion is overpowered or oppressive to play against because you apparently lack the skill to deal with a player (who is 4/5 about equal to your skill level) playing x or Y champion that you believe to be unfair.
Just think about it before you decide that you are the best judge for champion balance (hint, hint - you're not). Thanks for reading, and have a good day on the Rift guys. "It's easy to make a buck. It's a lot tougher to make a difference."
