I second this. I've pretty much just accepted the fact that in my elo at least, my teammates are unwilling to listen to my advice and usually become extremely hostile about it. I politely ask for our top laner not to lock in Yasuo considering we have Zed mid and Shaco jungle and don't need another squishy AD assassin and I'm told to stfu and trust. 20 mins into the game its a 5/5 yes vote for surrender because everyone just explodes then they blame the money starved support. Having a team full of squishies or a team with no AP can be countered by a single enemy bruiser or tank building 1 defensive item and steamrolling your team.

When you enter champ select, if you aren't telling your team you preferred roles and trying to work out where everyone's best, then that's just kind of a dick move. I can't tell you how many times I've had people like you on my team who come in at the last second and lock in a role that's already been chosen because they didn't pay attention.

This is a team game, and champ select is a part of that game. If you aren't communicating, then you are giving 4 other people that much less of a chance to succeed. Just talk.

Pretty much this. Just pay attention. How short does your attention span have to be to not at least see which roles are taken? I had to stop playing Orianna support because almost every single time someone would go "oh I thought you were mid" when I said, later in all caps repeatedly because this happened so consistently "I AM SUPPORTING WITH ORIANNA, REPEAT I AM SUPPORTING WITH THIS CHAMPION, NAMED ORIANNA" but we'd still end up with two intended supports (I'd have to mid-lane, which isn't awful, but it wasn't the idea), because someone's freaking watching YouTube.

Save a life. Pay attention to champ select. Don't freaking watch YouTube, it's starting to piss me off that people think this is okay.

tl;dr version: You should be thinking during champ select. Not watching YouTube. It's not a brainless process, it's absolutely key, not something to be ignored. It decides entire games then and there if it goes wrong.

To add on to the philosophy, I go by the "third pick or later" rule. First or second pick, you can't really just pick anyone, it's too easy for them to build against you. (That means don't even consider picking someone high-risk like Yi, Vayne, anyone like that, first pick, it's just way too easy to simply pick Vi or Taric or anyone else who stops them dead).

But if you're third pick or later, then you can pretty safely pick someone higher-risk. Like, being primarily a jungler, I'll probably pick Vi, Nocturne, or Amumu (or Skarner if he's not banned), if first or second pick, because they're pretty safe early bets.

But if the role's still open third or later, I might go Yi, Evelynn, Kayle, or anyone who is a clear shut-down of whatever potential hyper-carry they have, or maybe complements a hyper-carry already chosen on our team. If we have a Yasuo? Almost always going Malphite because he's just way too useful to not have with a Yasuo, whereas picking Yi is just not a good choice when you already have an AD hyper-carry. You really don't want two AD assassins on one team; at best, they're splitting the role of hyper-carry, which doesn't tend to work out that well most of the time, in my experience (Which is why the PROJECT Skin comp was so horrifyingly awful in practice, they didn't synchronize [heh] in the least). I have lots of options for that, which generally comes down to how bursty they are, or how much crowd control they have.

Having said all that, I do pay attention to champ select, because I have a large pool of champs with whom I'm competent in any given role, depending on who the other team picks. I look at their team more than my own (not that I don't look at both, I mean sometimes your team has literally no hard cc or is all AD assassins, it just happens because I guess people just expect someone else to pick someone with hard cc, but then they pick AD assassins anyway and...yeah) and just identify their potential hyper-carries, and pick against them.

That's how I roll with champ select.

Not sure why your being downvoted. Team chat is the first and last time most of us will play together, and we have about 5 minutes to figure shit out for the next 30 minutes + were forced to be together. Pay attention people.

I would agree with you, but this is really hard to organize solo queue because you're lucky if everyone has even one champion that they can play per position. If someone ends up forced top lane and someone else ends up jg and they both only play one champ in those positions, then you just kinda have to hope that those champs work together well. I doubt many people are capable of playing at their mmr with more than like 5 champs, so if you don't get the right position then a good teamcomp may not be possible.

I love that movie! ^^

But, I never dodge queues. If the enemy comp looks bad, I just go in anyway with my best counterpick, and hope for the best. And hey, I can learn how that comp works, and apply that next time.
