Can't actually confirm it on the wiki, so we only have Phreak's word, but considering everything about Mordekaiser from his skin, to his design, to his ability names and even his mace's name all references heavy metal songs, I completely trust it. lol

All his old sounds really did sound like that; I believe it. His new Q "bonk bonk BONK" sound probably isn't. Just another aspect of the champ that rework ruined.
