I used to think I should try and get gold, but with how bad the rage is in ranked, I think it's best to stay in wood division where it's safe.
I wanted to play Ranked and every now and then the urge strikes, but then I just watch one of big bro's games and that urge is quickly stifled. I literally only play the placements just to keep my summoner profile a bit fancy. Really the only thing that will motivate me to play Ranked is if they announce a Victorious skin for one of my mains...which is unlikely.

I don't try to convince myself to step in a burning house anyway.
I always just play my placement matches, and then a few more, then i get to my promos (YAYY) but the moment i get into my promo's, it's like Riot decides to put trolls, afks, toxic people etc etc etc on my team meanwhile i face 3 golds and 2 silver 1's that seem to have perfect teamwork and cohesion. I was silver 4 last season, this season im bronze 2. I always just give up on ranked because of how toxic it seems to be whenever i hit promos, and i don't have any friends that play ranked, most people on my friends list are ARAM or normals only 
I just hit gold and I'm genuinely not convinced it's all that different from bronze.
