To be fair, a lot of them use Curse or Teamspeak and don't want someone to be surprised and pull out the sexist card.

A lot of it, from what some have told me, is from experience. It's less "I'm a grill, worship meh" and more "Yes, I am a girl, so can we move on now?"

Yeah, but that doesn't answer the question as to why people are against girl gamers in the first place. But maybe I'm confused because I grew up with three sisters and no brothers, so I'm more comfortable women who game.

Honestly, I'm not surprised after seeing so many racial and homophobic slurs during my time here, and how volatile some people can be.

Though it a game like League it hardly matters... after all nobody knows who anyone else is... nobody knows anyone else gender and probably nobody cares either...

Often times it's not "important" but simply a "btw" and because people consider it abnormal it may be construed as an attempt for attention.

(Imagine people refer to you as "she" or "her". Would you not want to correct them at some point? Outside of the LoL context where many people are defined as their champions... Imagine it's between games and talking in a group or you're playing a game like Starcraft and are referred to as the wrong gender.)

As for why other people care so much to make a big deal about it... Is beyond me. But I learned people get weird with the idea of girls playing games when my first e-friend in Diablo 2, who I played with daily for like three months, suddenly stopped talking to me after finding out I was a girl. (He said "He's alive!" after I had been offline for a week... I responded "Who? Me? I'm a she.")

edit - And with a lot of lady gamers out there... it's actually important that people do NOT know their sex. Gaming has changed a lot from my Diablo 2 days, but I learned early on that openly admitting to being female can result in some very unpleasant "conversations." I've hope for humanity though :D I've only run into a single terrible person on this account in LoL. Once upon a time it'd be at least a weekly nightmare of a person if I had an account saying "Lady" in the name.

Though then again the games I play I mostly don't know anything about the people I play with/against... After all there usually isn't much talking in LoL (and well I type slow so I tend to be quiet unless there is something worth the bother to type and I have the time) And well... hearthstone... Thanks... well played... sorry... not much option there

Warcraft 3... oh it has been a while since I played that... still such a good game with all those awesome custom maps... so much to choose from

It really doesn't matter much :P People just want to be treated like people in the end.

Though now that you mention Warcraft 3... More than once, if I mentioned in a game something about "my bf" I had people ask if I was gay. Which kinda threw me off the first time. Just going by population, I'd imagine it be statistically more likely to be a female than gay... Yet people assumed so much that i was male that hearing I had a bf caused them to assume I was gay rather than female. I found it interesting.

I don't like when the entire game now revolves around a girl and no longer about just messing around. The attention to me seems more like everyone coming in to poke their peckers in a glory hole box believing that they're going to receive something from someone who claims to be a girl. I don't care if you're a woman or not, just don't attract attention to your gender for anything.
