I always thought it was kind of stupid that he'd throw a tree instead of just jumping super far himself... I mean it had to take way more strength to that tree as hard as he did and stand on it without it losing altitude than to just jump that far himself, right?

maybe it's better for traveling long distances or it's less exhausting than jumping the whole way there. I always thought it might be that he doesn't care where he goes, so he just tosses a tree in a direction, jumps on it and rides it till it hits the ground.

Then again, it's dragon ball. They have a sentient cloud that will only let those who are pure of heart ride it, houses that fit inside a pill sized capsule, cyborgs and/or androids and magical crystal balls that summon a dragon who will grant one wish to the person who collects all 7 balls. I don't think logic really applies most of the time on that show .__.
