I main Malzahar and while he handles Zed better than other mid laners it's still hardly in your favor. You have horrible mana problems early game even with your E. Zed just has no weaknesses.
im in bronze i usually just let me shadows deal the damage against a malzahar
I play Alistar mid against both of those champions. Damage and crowd control mean nothing when you're a cow.
I just play 
and snare him under tower when he gets cocky and tries to dive me. Then I walk away and maybe chortle a little.

Liss or Yi are my top counters to zed, that or building an early armor item...or exhaust...or barrier...or heal...or any form of cc to stop him after he ultis...yeah....
Same applies to every assassin. They don't dare get near Malzahar. EVER.
