Runes are pretty expensive though. I wouldn't be surprised if most people who owned a majority of the runes and rune pages were Season 1 players who never quit and forever grinded.

That being said, I know people like that who still don't have 20% of runes and rune pages.

Btw, Tier 3 runes should be the only ones that exist. Tier 2 and 1 are just simply useless, even for the low price they go for.

You really don't need that many runes though. Most of the runes you can buy have an insane implicit cost. I own probably 25% of all the runes, but it's all I'll realistically ever need. There are just so many combinations of runes that simply aren't that good.

I don't like thinking of it that way. I think it's worse to limit yourselves to 1 general jungle page for all, like 25 ish? junglers for example because:

A. You don't get to try new things and different ways of using champions.

Maybe I should take x runes on x champion because I don't have enough health late game

B. You can't play champions to their fullest

For example, Azir really needs health per lvl yellows instead of armor yellows.

I know those might not seem significant, but they can add a lot more variety to the game if more frequently followed.

Except I have hp/lvl runes and count them as "good."

The runes I don't have are the ones that are bad. "Aww man, I wish I had AD yellows for early game." "I should grab AP red even though Mpen reds give me more damage." "I am seriously considering those energy/lvl quints."

I'd say to make rune pages for all 5 roles (Which I know isn't necessary) you would need at least 20-25k IP.

Btw the reason I am saying this is many argue that you need 3 runes pages for AD Support and AP to play ranked

That is a ridiculously lengthy process. I'd say that you would need to play a bit more than a month just to have the right tools to play ranked.

If you want to climb even higher by having specialized rune pages for different champions then that is a whole new story.

IMO filling a rune page should take no more than a week or so, I don't see why making them so unobtainable has any benefit.

I also do know about the rune sale and all, but in general, runes and rune pages are filthy expensive, and I see no reason as to why they shouldn't be easier to obtain.

Riot doesn't give you the Rune Storage to own all the Runes. They mentioned that when they were updating the Tier 1 and Tier 2 prices.

How long did it take you?

I sometimes see people demanding players be required to own far more champions and Runes to play Ranked, but they never really understand how long it takes.

I started playing on week 2 of season 2 and have been continuously playing ever since. I have probably bought about 1/3 of the champions with RP though (almost all of the when they were on sale.) I have spent more money on RP than I have on WoW, pretty sure, and I've played WoW for several years. Most of them are skins though. I'd buy champs on sale with leftover RP from skins. And once I bought all the runes I could ever use, I stopped doing that so I could get some mileage out of my IP.

The entire collection took a huge amount of time, but my most frequent champions number less than 15: Corki Janna Lulu Varus Twitch Irelia Caitlyn Pantheon

Nope. 14. I use like 5 of them. Technically I "use" 8 of them since I have 3 for Pantheon , 2 for Lulu , 1 for Janna , 1 for ADC, and 1 for mages. But I use the same page for 95% of the time, and pretty much only play Janna right now for support. I have way too many pages.
