Probably, considering that it came straight out of the book written in the 50's, long before it would have gotten as "cheesy" as you apparently think it is.

Big fan of all the LotR universe, but you have to admit that was literally one of the lamest moments in the entire story, and the movies make it worse by the way it's phrased.

"One of the most feared and powerful entities in the entire world, defeated by semantics" is pretty fuckin' lame.

Sure, it's phrased slightly better in the books, but it still gives the implication that the reason Eowyn can kill the Witch King is because she's female, which isn't why. It's supposed to be a saying or a legend about the Witch King: "He's so powerful that it's said he cannot be killed", but phrasing it as "No living man can kill him" and then having a woman kill him makes it seem like you literally couldn't harm him without being a woman, which isn't the case.

The whole scene (in both book and movie form) sells Eowyn's skill as a warrior pretty damn short, imo.

Huh, I never would have guessed that a discussion would erupt about Tolkien killing the Witch-King of Angmar through use of semantics. Especially since old Billy Shakespeare himself did the same thing. Macbeth Act 5, Scene 3 "The spirits that know All mortal consequences have pronounced me thus: “Fear not, Macbeth. No man that’s born of woman Shall e'er have power upon thee." If I remember correctly, doesn't Macduff say he was "untimely ripp'd" from his mother's womb (through what is commonly thought of as a C-Section), and thus (technically) not born at all? If the man considered to be the greatest writer of all time can do it, why can't a man who was a Literature professor do the same?

He can certainly do it, but that doesn't make it good. It's still a lame cop-out.

Furthermore, there's a bit of a difference there: Mystical spirits prophetically announcing a cryptic foretelling, as they frequently do in literature, is significantly less lazy than a word-of-mouth rumor that spreads throughout the kingdom of men.

Similar situations, sure, but it's the way that they're used that differentiates one as being lesser quality than the other. Being a "classic" or a famous member of literature history shouldn't make someone immune to critique.

Also I think perhaps you missed the point of my post: The point was that the Witch Kings death wasn't contingent on a woman being the one dealing the killing blow, Eowyn just happened to be a warrior of high enough skill and a woman. The movies latched onto the wrong part and thus cheapened the character: The scene was meant to be a moment of validation for Eowyn and a showing of her caliber as a warrior, and instead it looks like a lame lucky circumstance in her favor just because she's got a rack. It's pretty disappointing.

Which means Sol will probably break something.

I didn't intend it as that. Though one thing that does stick around with the champion ghosts is their passives. So Sol probably will be a bit irritating as a ghost.

I was playing a ranked game the other day, and it had been so long since I played Mordekaiser that I actually forgot my ultimate gave me a dragon ghost. We killed it just as the enemy team was showing up with low health from a previous team fight, and I flashed over the wall to escape. The dragon proceeded to get me a double kill and win the team fight. I felt like a moron for forgetting.
