This just happened to me! I was playing Orianna and ended up 1v5 against the enemy. Our Lee Sin and Ezreal had snuck around their team to backdoor the nexus. Our top lane was dead. Our Leona was supposed to wait for me to back and engage with me but died before Lee and Ez were ready.
I managed to keep them busy with retreating harass, landed a 5 man ult once I reached our inhibitor turret into W, killing their ADC. I ultimately died when Nasus decided to face tank the tower. Still, they were so focused on my Ori they missed their nexus dying. Even in post game chat we had to explain to them how they lost. It was amazing.
And then they say "Report -you- for feeding"
Ah, I remember one game like that. We were behind, I was 2/9/3, and their team was ridiculously fed. Even the support was fed!
On the other hand, I had 420 stax on my Q at 30:00.

I just pushed bot. After their Inner turret, I saw a 4v5 starting up at our mid inner. I kept pushing. I took their inhibitor turret around the same time they took ours. I watched the fight unfold as I darted into the Nexus turrets' range, hammered away, and ran out when the minion wave ran out.
Their jungler backed, and I slew him. Somebody else backed, and I hammered him into the ground, too. A third enemy died to my team, and the remaining 2 enemies backed. As my team healed up and charged down mid, I took out a fourth enemy and got clobbered by the fifth after I took out the Nexus turrets. The remnants of my team took the ace and Nexus.

Indeed. I've done that in most roles where you know you aren't necessary, so you do whatever you can to save the people who are. If you win off my death, that's worth.
