DrCyanide3 votesThe original show was pretty bad. All of the characters (particularly the female ones) may as well have been carbon copies of each other, they differed only in voice and visuals, but were identical in personality and motivation.
Log Horizon did a far better job and more original execution on the "trapped in a game" idea.

Hadn't thought about the carbon copy female characters bit before, thanks for pointing that out.
Personally I like both, they have different interpretations and lessons on life and morals. There's value in each of them, even if one is vastly better than the other.

Brain Errör 4045 votesThe first 11 episodes of SAO, honestly, is amazing. After that, show gets pretty bad tbh. If they kept the serious pace and atmosphere of the show, it'd be top tier. But they just had to ruin it in such a terrible way... they never even got to finish SAO, which is horse shit. Same thing happened to gun gale, but instead of 11 episodes of awesomeness, we only got 6. -sigh-

Ralanr5 votesHonestly the premise just terrifies me. It fits more in the horror genre, but the show doesn't seem to be set up as a horror anime. More of an action and adventure one.
I know people die in action adventure as well, but the premise of "die in the game, you die irl" screams horror and should have been the main premise. Did they even show characters who died out of nowhere because their families thought disconnecting them or removing the helmets would save them?
Plus such a premise could show the effects of it on the real world. Family members staying near the bedside of the victims, unaware of what they are actually doing in the game. Your friend could be alive for one second, then dead the moment you turn around and you wouldn't even know how.
The premise is fucking scary. It should have been used as a straight horror genre.
DeathBurst8 votesI disagree with the Horror Genre. "Real death" doesn't necessarily mean "horror". Just look at all the war movies existing. Or check Game of Thrones. You can have an "adult" adventure show with real death without horror.
But yeah, this premise offer a lot of potential depth, and SAO uses a tiny fraction of it, with unrelatable characters, bad fanservice, and predictable events. Even worse, you realize pretty fast that people die, sure, but no one actually important can die. They always survive with a sliver of health or from a stupid Deus Ex Machina... It's sad.

That is probably why they didn't go the horror route.
Log Horizon executed on the premise really well; less life or death, more actual trying to figure out the game. I'd suggest giving that a watch if you haven't yet.
DrCyanide1 votesI recommend Log Horizon. Similar "trapped in a game" theme, but the execution was much better, the characters more enjoyable/believable, etc.
The TV series for Log Horizon and SAO were both out around the same time, so they started to effect each other (to the slight detriment of Log Horizon in the second season), but it's definitely worth a watch.

Glory ln Death1 votesThat's how it feels to play support Sion against Lucian's Culling. Just shield up, stand in front of him, move with him so he can't shoot past you, and /all ? when he finishes and hasn't even broken the shield.
Now, the rest of the time in mid-late game, when he's jumping around you and poking you to death with his passive and you can't hit him with any of your slow, lumbering abilities because his dash has basically no cooldown, it's super frustrating. But just absorbing his entire ult when he wants to clear a wave is super satisfying.

oh pleese a tank cannot 1v5 without dying in 3 seconds because accumulated damage you are exaggerating to much. next line you gonna say is either that draven should be nerfed or yasuo is op

And the really strong ones like galio can literally dive in 1v5 later on and not get blown up instantly, athlo this depends a bit on enemy team comp-
But i´ve seen a cho run it down 3v5 and he got out alive, both enemy mage and marksman tried to kill him but he killed the mage in a matter of 6 seconds and then walked around infront of the carry soaking all their damage while his own mage and a assassin killed enemy toplane, support and jungle.
And they were only slightly ahead at that point, issue was that they didn't have any dedicated tankbuster champ.
Techfusion71 votesHonestly when playing a 5000 hp, fully stacked, full tank, Sion nothing and I mean nothing in this game brings me more joy than sitting still and just taking tower hits, adc crits, the rest of the entire team, and all the salt thrown at you and then walking away from it with 1000 hp to spare.
