When Sion ults away and screams "COWAAAAARDS," he's not being ironic. He's insulting the enemy team for not going as balls-deep as him to use such an important cooldown in a random direction.
Either that or he's trying to catch the Gromp frog but keeps losing it, and he's yelling at it to come out and die.

There is no way for him to know aside from blatantly breaking the fourth wall. Sion is too serious of a character with nothing but carnage on his mind to even do that.
