After thresh stole senna, Lucian became gay. He saw zilean do a stripper dance, and they had a child. They named said child "Ekko". This is how ekko was made.

More like Lucian and Senna had a child before Thresh took Senna. The child was fascinated with techmaturgy, and was allowed to study in Piltover.
At around the same time Xenoblade's Shulk was visiting Piltover, and the greatest inventors and scientists of Piltover were fascinated by his Monado. They tried replicating it, but ended up creating a different time-manipulating device that Ekko uses in the 'seconds' video. Ekko then steals the weapon and flees to Zaun.
Think about it: this makes perfect sense:
- Ekko's time travel device has a similar glow to the Monado
- Ekko's weapon has a similar shape to the Monado
- Ekko looked like he was really feeling it in the cinematic, especially after turning back time a couple of times
