Anidan20 votesTo be fair, that additional sorta-eyelid actually exists in the animal kingdom, too, not just fictitious dragons. It's called a nictitating membrane, in case you're curious enough to look it up yourself. It's a translucent eyelid to keep dust and stuff out of their eyes and moisten them while still allowing them to see.

That was imo both the worst, and most redeeming feature of the movies. Seriously though, idk who thought that was a good idea.

Strawberrycocoa2 votesFirebenders needed pre-existing fire to bend does NOT make sense and it only proves Shyamalan knew nothing about the Avatar universe and didn't care to learn.
It's in the very first episode of The Last Airbender that Iroh explains to the audience to Zuko that firebenders draw power from the sun and combine it with their inner chi to create bursts of flame. That's why balance and control (specifically breath control, which is a traditional method of claming the mind and focusing the will in real world martial arts) is so important to firebending; they are mingling primal energies to utilize their element while the other three simply mold pre-existing matter.
And realistically, narratively, it's better that way because Firebenders who need pre-existing fire to fight are ridiculously weak and limited compared to the near-omnipresence of Earth Air and Water. Douse the source fire and they're powerless; no other element has that weakness. So Firebenders self-generating flame through energy manipulation is the better approach to take. Imagine the Last Airbender TV series if all they needed to do was douse the bonfire Ozai was using to bend, or if Zuko was powerless to affect anyone who simply kept away from his torch.

If you check the word count on it it is substantially shorter than any of the LotR books, shorter than all but 2 Harry Potter books, and, unfortunately, shorter than any twilight book. Not saying it was a short book, but it is a pretty average length, definitely not what I would refer to as being exceptionally long.
(My opinion may be slightly skewed due to my high reading speed and having been reading the LotRs books since 1st grade.)
