I started playing League in November of 2015, just a few days before Illaoi was released if I remember correctly. Sona was the first champion that I bought, and I became a Sona main then and there, and have played her since.
I started watching Pro play in late January. I wanted to see League at a pro level, and hoped I might get to see a game where Sona was picked, just to see how the pros play her.
While watching their level of play was exciting, I was admittedly saddened as I steadily realized that I'd likely never see Sona in these games, especially considering that, I think, the last time she was played competitively was in 2013, unless I'm mistaken.
At this point I really didn't have any hope of seeing my favorite champion, but there was always that little glimmer that maybe one day, she'll show up, and be a good pick for her situation.
I nearly lost my mind once I saw the Sona locked in during that game. I was so excited to finally, finally get to see her, and was hoping even more that CLG would win, not just because they're the NA team, but because if they did lose, then everyone would target Aphromoo for his pick, saying that "Sona is a trash champ and she lost you guys that game as soon as she was locked in"
So imagine my excitement when not only was she able to do relatively well, but her team managed to win! I was so excited and happy! Then imagine my shock when they picked her AGAIN the very next game, and proceeded to get another victory! I could barely contain my happiness!
It was also interesting to me that even I, a low-level, shit bronze player, was able to see Sona's plays incoming moreso than I could others, like in game 3, when Kindred used their ult early, and FW was pushed off of it, while Sona still had her flash+ult up, I knew exactly what was coming, and it was a strange, happy feeling to know what this pro level player was going to do.
I think I'll be satisfied with Sona's competitive appearances for a while. Hopefully she makes an occasional appearance as a niche counterpick here and there, but the fact that I was able to watch her in action on the pro level has made me extremely happy.
