Alright, so Poppy and Tristana actually are somewhat similar in character. Both are tomboys and very brave. Granted, if Poppy wasn't always off finding the hero and actually had a care in the world for her fellow yordles, she and Tristana might actually be good friends.
However, it's already canon that Tristana and Rumble are ever so slightly more than friends (Teemo's the third wheel), Poppy is seeking the hero and that pretty much kisses her love life goodbye, and you can take your Yuri elsewhere.
Straight friends = Yes Romantic couple = No

When I first started playing, I Played pretty much only Sona with some Soraka. Sona got changed in some pretty ugly ways becoming a different champion basically and Soraka was just a sometimes food. Switched over to Sion, and kept with him until a few months after the rework, and where he ended up just didn't feel good. Transitioned to Fiora pre-rework, playing a lot after the rework, until I came to the understanding that I just suck with the post rework version.
