Nah, he never runs away, he just runs into someone else on the other side of the map, out of the vision, not listed in the champions being played who was invisible during champ select.

Sion is just sick of all the pansies on the Rift. He is going off to fight in a real war so he ults into the sunset. Then he remembers he has to kill the pansies first to be able to leave the rift. It is a vicious cycle.
