Our team wanted to be a bit more transparent around server issues, as well as other information that the NA playerbase may want to hear about. This is 100% a work in progress, so feedback around what’s here, or what you might want to see, is highly appreciated!

Your weekly dose of server problem-os, NA League news, and moar!

Neeko has been revealed (and there was a ridiculously close guess here beforehand from a fellow player), League is working with Marvel on some comics (lore here!), and the professional League scene continues to shake up with even more roster changes across all regions.

Server Stuff:

Featured section in the store had expired sales (11/18/18, ~1 day) A series of featured item cards expired, leaving blank tiles in their place. This affected Riot worldwide, and correctly scheduled content had to be added back into the list.

Database maintenance caused a delay for patch 8.23 (11/20/18, ~9 minutes) A database maintenance step was unable to finish properly, requiring a rollback. Original estimations were that the servers would be up 30 minutes later than planned, however the rollback only took 9 minutes to complete, and the servers were up at 6:09 AM.

Game Stuff:

Game Disconnects (11/16/18, ~3 minutes). A power issue caused a bunch of network (here’s the most recent Riot Direct AMA)) devices to go offline, requiring an automated reboot of affected hardware. This caused lag and disconnections for several minutes.

Game Disconnects (11/19/18, ~3 minutes) A Riot Direct device crashed, causing player traffic to shift to another device. That shift caused disconnects while the players were transferred.

Player Support Trend:

This last week saw a minor spike in FPS tickets. If you’re running into FPS issues since the last patch, try the steps in this KB before contacting Player Support.

Just figured I'd say that it's interesting to hear the root causes of these sort of things (e.g. something expired and left a blank thing, you were running a big query at the same time as something else that borked stuff, etc.). The community sometimes likes to meme about how "small indie company can't afford servers" or similar, but it's insightful to hear what it is that actually does cause things to go wrong.

Scale can cause significantly more problems, a quick and easy fix for just one thing may instead be for several dozen, even hundreds of repeat changes to cover it all, a lot more time investment than you'd think sometimes.

Some of the problems you run into, we might do as well, just on a larger scale. Say you have an imaginary router model XTR-2012 protecting incoming data to a single database, and the newest firmware causes a bug. If we have the same model, we'll have to fix far more than just the one most likely.

Not sure if it's my pc or what, but the ban and select screen is super laggy and I almost have to wait 3 seconds between actions. And hope It doens't say I dodged.

My league crashed every other game and I got 20 minute queue timers for it. League servers are really poppin.

Was it the client crashing or the game dropping?

A majority of the time the client would crash but once it closed with no explanation while running fine.

Yeah, that's no good. That's never fun, and I would like to help. I hope you don't mind, but I've gone ahead and created a Support ticket for you to help you resolve this issue. The folks in Player Support are great and they should be able to help you get back into game with no issues.

I had god awful pings and shit for a long time now since this patch went live. Your support people are fucking useless. They just tell me to come to the boards who are then just a bunch of blind lee-sin players.

Im getting a lot of server side lag. I am running my normal 45 ms on my side yet I still get lag. Its not a hardware issue either.
