Starting in ranked?

I hit level 30 about a week and a half ago, and after a while, decided to que up for a few of my placement matches . I consider myself a decent player for my experience level, but I managed to lose 3 in a row. I was wondering if anyone could point me towards some necessary skills/ competencies that would be a great boon to my play.

A few questions:

How many champions in each role should I feel comfortable playing?

How many trolls and afkers should I expect to see in each match?

What are some essential skills that one should have in order to play ranked?

First of all, dont do your placements yet. play the game, draft, or normal if u really want, to get used to it more , and try YOUR VERY HARDest in those games. open up something like aword document, or get a piece of paper, and write down all the games, your scores, anything yu did wrong, anything you did well, and what champion + roll. look at the list after every few games and look at what you wrote down. did you write down, couldve csed better? then make a goal for cs, lets say your a shyvana top. you could make your goal first to be 60 by 10, thne 70 by 10, and try to maybe get 80-90 by 10. there, focus on improving in where you went wrong and u will become a betetr player.

DO NOT play ranked after u have lost 2 or more matches. even if u feel ok you are still going to sorta be on tilt, just dont play ranked. take a break or play a ormal/aram, or whatever u like to do, and then come back if u feel u can play without the losing streak affecting you.

focus on objectives. there have been so many games where i have won simply because i had objectives. if you could see the gold on both teams,( like in a replay) often times the team with the most towers and objectives has way more gold then the other team, even if they are down about 10 kills.

ward. as a jungle main so many people dont ward at this elo, it makes it too easy.

before you do somethng, think why. why should u all in this talon as zed? because u have ignite and ult and he only has ignite? there, youve jsut proven that you can fight, BUT you must now think what if. what if you go too hard and get caught by his team then take a few seconds to ward and THEN go in when its safe. what if he beats you? if your a zed and u have ult the enemy doesnt and they beat you, they are probably very fed, dont fight in the first place if you even have a dought that u will lose. its too risky to lose, it can snowball unfavorably towards yourself. ( im just using zed as an example, it goes for alot of champs. for example a kayle ult or rene ult)

GROUP. group with your team to take towers and objectives, in low elo they usually cant do anything about it cause they are just farming golems, pushing top, etc. in low elo you can often times just group and take 1-2 towers before they even get the chance to stop you.

learn. learn from your mistakes. learn from others mistakes. learn from others outplays. learn from EVERYTHING. if you see a lee do some fancy kick flash into your team, TRY IT on your own. if you see a shyvana only focus on farming, ignore most of your harras as rene, and then outcs you by 20 and be at a large advantage from the gold lead, try just csing.( trust me,it averages about 1 kill per 2 waves. so if u get perfect cs its as if u get a kill every two waves, which happen like twice a minute. cs is crucial.

for how many champs in a role, you want to narrow it down to about 3-4. have one or two comfort picks, then one or two other picks that u are decent with, incase the others are taken or banned. for example, i main jungle, and my go to/comfort picks are lee kha and shyv, then i also have udyr and eve for if i need to pick someone else.

for trolls and afks, dont even THINK about that. see, theoretically, if you play averagely and do well 50% of games, it is more likely that you will win then lose, since in theory it is only an unknown number out of 4, rather then 5 enemy players, who have a better chance of getting that afk or troll, as long as you play average.

dont take kda ratios too seriously. just because someone is 1/3, doesnt mean theyve been doing terribly. maybe theyve been taking towers all game, split pushing, and have near perfect farm, in which case they arent as bad as their score suggests.

Honestly, the two most impotant things in my opinion are apply pressure and work as a team, take objectives when possible. know when to backdoor, when to defend, when to push, etc. applyng pressure drags the game out, and if you are losing helps make amazing comebacks.

tahts all, hope this helps :)

The answers are 3, 1, and this is a little more difficult than a number.

You need to be able to last hit under pressure. You need to be focused on objectives and not kills. You should have some idea when to do things like taking baron/dragon. You should be able to position properly both in laning and in a team fight. You should know what the core items for your main champs are as well as situational pickups.

Here's a guide from a RoG mod who I think is in plat.

Alright at this point in the game it is really time to get serious in your games if you haven't already in your PvP and Draft matches. However, you should still have fun ;)

You should have at least 3-5 per role to at least have the mechainics down as well as the synergy between champions an example is like this team composition, Malphite - Top Shyvana - Jungle Yasuo - Mid Vayne - ADC Nami - Support With Nami and Malphit's knockups it'll guarantee Yasuo's ult as well as the flame trail from Shyvana's ultimate while Vayne is behind the line procing those Silver Bolts.

You should always expect to meet trolls and afkers and regardless of your pick if someone is begging you may as well give up the role because you don't want to lose 25LP over a whiny child in which the possibility of winning may stay stabilized, leaving the lobby is always an option but of course I can't influence you because of the less LP you lose instead of a possible full on loss.

Some skills you will need...Definitely the mechainics, communication, LA for cs, Lane Presence, And Proper Ganking. I mean there are a variety of skills one would use but its really up to you.

Alright this is all I can say at this time, good luck.

I've recently hit level 30 too, but I'm avoiding ranked play right now because I need to get better at the game overall:

  1. No Full Rune Pages yet- I want about 5 before I consider playing ranked.
  2. Need more optimal Mastery Pages.
  3. Don't have a decently sized champion pool yet
  4. I want to be good and knowledgeable with at least 3 champs in all the roles and during team fights.
  5. I haven't played about 50 matches in each primary role yet: jungle, support, tank, bruiser, ADC, APC, Mid, Top yet.
