Ranked Dc's and a Possible solution for some

Riot

I know i am not the best player but for years I have really enjoyed your game. Currently there is one thing that is really frustrating me. Failure to load/afkers in ranked games. I know that there is nothing you can do and I understand the statistics. I know the 7 losses in a row due to afks is just bad luck. There is though one scenario where there is something you could do. That is games where people fail to load.

I realize u cannot turn on loss prevention etc for afkers or ppl would afk when loosing. Lately though i have had a string of games that were impossible to win. The last game was 3v5 for the first 7 minutes. I won my lane I roamed and help the solo bot. But without a top and adc it was not possible. Then once they did load in they were so far behind they were just cannon fodder.

I would propose two possible solutions:

  1. If upon the spawning of the jungle minions there are still players who have not logged into the game end the game. I prefer this to loss prevention since loss prevention means someone still gets LP for winning etc. Simply end the game let restart. that way everyone gets a better experience.

  2. If at jungle spawn or say.. 3-5 min into the game there are people who have not connected at least save the loosing team from a series loss. It is annoying enough when you loose LP but loosing a series due to this just makes u want to quit.

Finally could you at least add in an early surrender for games where after 5 minutes someone has still not loaded in. It is immensely frustrating to have to sit around for another 20 minutes to loose. Just let me get rid of the unlucky game where connection issues are screwing you over and let me move on to the next game. instead of sitting there for a full 20 minutes and getting pummeled.

I really like the idea of an early surrender if your team doesn't connect. However, I think there would need to be some slight changes to the system you mentioned. While I'm sure the team with players failing to load would be more than happy to just restart the ranked game with players who could, it would be unfair for the team who could load fully to just have a null game that didn't count for anything. What's more, I believe that 3-5 minutes is a little early to call the game on someone who has disconnected. Your system is a very good concept, but I personally would like to see it implemented more along these lines:

"In the event where a team has one or more summoners unable to connect from the start of the game, a message will appear to the remaining summoners will be given the option to surrender at 10 minutes. Surrendering at 10 minutes with 4 or fewer summoners will require half of them to agree on the surrender. The surrender will result in a loss for ranked games, however LP lost will be reduced significantly and games surrendered in this manner will not count to games which cause summoners to drop a division or league (i.e. Not only could a summoner not drop from Gold V to Silver I due to this surrender, they would not drop from Gold II to Gold III). This is only in the instances where 1 or more summoners has been disconnected from the start of the game and has been unsuccessful in reconnecting. This method requires 50% of the summoners to accept.

In the event where one or more summoners are having trouble connecting to the match, yet are able to stay connected for periods of time, the match will play as normal. However, if the total time of summoners disconnected reaches X time (in this instance X would have to vary depending on how many summoners are having connection issues), then at the end of the game all remaining summoners would receive a loss with significantly reduced LP loss. However, in this instance it would still be possible for players to be dropped from leagues and divisions, it would require multiple consecutive losses in this manner for this drop to occur (i.e. it would require say, 2-3 consecutive losses due to allies disconnecting for you to be dropped a rank, tier, or league, even if your next loss without allies disconnecting would result in that event)"

Personally, I believe this way would allow players a safe out in the instance where they have someone who remains disconnected from the start, they wouldn't have to worry about playing the entire game, as long as two of them wanted to opt out, they would have a loss and lose some LP, but they wouldn't need worry about being dropped from a league or division. As what I could come up with, the second way would just be to prevent toxicity amongst people telling the last person to remain disconnected, they will still be dropped out of leagues, but it will take 2-3 times for it to happen. Unfortunately, I don't forsee a way to prevent promotional series from being losses, that would be something for someone more intelligent than I who also isn't about to eat supper to work on. Hope this helps, and I really enjoyed your idea! I hope a rioter can implement something like it in the future!

Interesting point. However certain 4v5s are possible and I would not be surprised if someone won a 3v5. So an automatic game end when someone disconnects is not a good idea.

I like the idea of early surrender if a disconnection occurs. Maybe as soon as 10 mins to see if people still want to continue playing.

You can't really give lp reductions for dc's after the match has started, you'd promote bullying players into leaving. So you'd only care about dc's from the picking champions to the in-game phases.

My suggestion is to lock players in their spawn for the first 15 seconds of the game (like Dominion) and if someone hasn't connected yet/isn't reconnecting (this should be visible for the servers) in these 15 seconds, count it as a queue dodge, perhaps penalize the dc'er a bit harsher if it repeatedly happens.
