The horrible mistake that is the new minions pushing when ahead

Riot...

I love your game. i have played it since the very end of year one But your new minions buffs... are terrible and will hurt the game. Every game now when you are behind all of the lanes push against you. Forcing you to split up and protect all of your turrets. This means that you are permanently pinned and can do nothing. Since you combo-ed this with weakening all of the turrets.. you are not even safe under the turret and it forces your team into a 1 - 3 - 1 where you can be dove easily.

Beyond that it feels terrible to constantly have to run back to a lane just cause it automatically pushes. they do not even have to send a champ there for the lane to get pushed into your turret. It also makes it far harder to push out and take a turret of your own. you introduced this as a way to help teams that are behind but honestly it just makes it worse for the if the team with the lead is competent at all. PLEASE undo the minions chances.. Balance them again and let ppl use their own skill to manage the waves,

They assume that all our opponents are wood tier bots that allow you to freeze while they're stuck there helplessly in lane trying to still farm against you.

No lol. Anyone above silver would know that once they've won lane, they can just leave to snowball other lanes and win the game.

Just had another game.. i was the only lane that won and we got pushed back to base.. We won 3 team fights while pushed to base.. but since all of our lanes pushed every time regardless of where people were. we could not take objectives after the fight or we would lose our base..

This left us trapped and eventually they won because it became impossible to even up the game as u were stuck dealing with minions and could never create a counter push.... THIS CHANGE IS BS

League is SOOO much better then Heroes.. I really hope they do not keep trying to cave. league has actual strategy and takes time to master instead of always running around brawling..

And yes the themed minions is really cool!!!!

but this new minions pushing thing... is possibly one of their worst changes ever and will probably ruin the game for me if it stays.

I am a fan of most of Riot's changes in most situations, but I have to say, a few of the recent moves have really felt like the result of a post Heroes of the Storm identity crisis.

Like, oh no their matches are over in twenty minutes and their minions are interesting and ours take forty minutes and our minions are boring now our game feels old and slow we better do a bunch of stuff to make matches go faster and make our minions seem less lame!

Because remember, not long after HotS went live, Riot started the event where LoL suddenly had those cool other minions like the shark dog and the turtle things, all of which you could buy with a new alternate currency. And people were begging for new minion skins for years and years, and nothing, and then HotS comes along and boom, Pool Party minions and Project minions and now Snow Day minions.

Some of the weird me-too jealously has to led to cool stuff, like the themed minions, but other ideas, like this new mechanic where minions kick you while you're down, just seem super desperate. It's sad because LoL is ten times the game that HotS will ever be. The cosmetic changes were more than enough. They didn't need to start bulldozing a path through their own meta to seek a new life as League of Snowball.

The idea behind the minion changes is that the enemy cannot freeze against you in lane, denying you farm endlessly. In practice though, this ends up making the game impossible to win for 4v5s, and makes it hard to handle the minions endlessly pushing down towers.

I'm not saying I'm in favor of the changes but there is a semi cheap way to prevent the pushes. Get the tanky member on your team to buy item 3512 in most cases that item can push even super minions (actually it will only stop superminion from pushing, but it will push back every other lane and possible take turrets) and at a 2 min cd which is what the portal last means that unless an enemy destroys it you will continue pushing indefinitely (you still have to refresh the portal) also minions can't kill the portal if you place it slightly into the jungle (or inside a bush), you just push the lane ahead of wherever you want the portal (so the enemy don't see the single re dots walking on the lane which are a giveaway of the portal location) and the voids will keep pushing while remain complete invisible to the enemy team if using the minimap only. That way you can defend with a 0-4-1, wave clearing and wait until the side lanes are pushed and they have to split to clear them and go for a teamfight.

Before this change, if a team got ahead, they could make the minion waves slow push or stack.

This change skips this completely skill-less maneuver and forces both teams get on with the inevitable. If the team that's ahead can push their advantage, good for them. If the match had taken place before 5.23, the result would have been identical, only 1 minute later. If the losing team can tunnel, they gain more XP and gold because they have more minions to kill.

I kinda like it makes it so you dont have to overextend forcs

Taneif11/29/2015, 1:26:38 AM3 votes

Yes the issue is it leaves u unable to freeze or push if you are behind.. and if you are ahead u hardly ever want to freeze So therefor it just kicks u harder when u r down.

Haven't really noticed it so much, only my games seem to last slightly longer.

My major problem is that it gets even harder for the minions to push back if you're down two towers. I played a game last night where my top lane lost and grouped. Then they split pushed and got second tower and the minions were auto shoving so hard that we couldn't get first top tower until the enemy team committed to Baron. That was the trade. Baron for a first tower. The XP reduction in the jungle and the XP you get from kills is just encouraging this super fast, ridiculously aggressive meta where Lee Sin is in every game.

I agree, whenever minions start entering our base we spend the rest of the game clearing them out, it's extremely difficult to get out of the base at that point and when you do, you have to go back in a few minutes.

I guess we missed the part where they had it off for half the patch then turned it on to collect data and see how games would go.

Sensationalism > Rationality I suppose.

What is strategy, waveclear and decision making? This is no different than a slow push that builds into a huge wave really so have your teammates that can waveclear take it down and watch for the signs of a impending team fight so you can position accordingly, nothing really new there

I think they should give Golden Kracken coins to teams that have low kda and dead turrets, should balance out lol.

Audiomancy11/30/2015, 4:14:10 AM1 votes

Why did they call this a 'comeback mechanic' again?

Smithney11/29/2015, 9:27:33 PM1 votes

It might be an unpopular opinion, but I don't think the minion change is notably unfair. Let's see:

The team that gets ahead gains momentum for pushing. The winning team can use this advantage to secure objectives and push lanes. The losing team is forced to defend the pushed lanes, which means they are at disadvantage in map control. However, since the waves get to the losing team's turrets faster, if the defending team is able to successfully deter enemy sieges, they can capitalize on the more frequent income of minion gold and eventually catch back if they hold on for long enough (also, don't forget that homeguard is free-for-all now after 20 minutes). I have spectated enough high-ELO games to tell that a comeback is definitely possible in current meta, you just need to right champions to make it happen. Some teamcomps might prefer early advantage and snowball, others like to defend and outscale. Which champs prefer which is on players to figure out.

When it comes to metagame, I am only a measly spectator, but that gives me the benefit of impartiality on certain subjects. I see where Riot were heading with these changes, and I feel like they will benefit the League when they get set in stone. On the other hand, my viewpoint is terrible at considering the enjoyability of the game, and because of that I can't really say how fun the games are in the ranked right now. I play my fair share of normal draft time to time, though, and I'm currently happy with it.

TL;DR The changes might seem bad right now, but I do see them work in the grand scheme. That doesn't mean they make the game fun, though.
