So any news on Zyra's rework that Morello once hinted at?

A while ago I made a thread pleading for Riot not to gut AP mid Zyra just because she was OP as a Support......they nerfed AP mid Zyra anyways and people continue to support with her.

Anyways, the main point is Morello went in and gave hints that he was planning on tweaking Zyra so that she focuses more on her plants for damage rather than the spells themselves. There were hints to make Zyra much more focused on relying on her plants.

Is something like that still in plans or is it forgotten?

I look forward to seeing what they do with Zyra but I wouldn't expect anything soon, there are much bigger fish to fry and she's not exactly unplayed or UP.

Morello spent quite a bit of time in this thread.

The basic idea is that, as he rightly predicted, Zyra players and enemies focus far too much attention on just her spells and not her plants who simply die a second after they come out due to collateral AoE, etc.

The idea then is to make Zyra more focused on creating a garden of plants. Unfortunately there was backlash by people who do not comprehend the fact that IF Zyra was to be made more plant-centric, obviously they would fix her plants' tendencies to be destroyed so quickly and effortlessly.

They thought she was OP as a jungler maybe? No idea why they made dragon kill it in one hit. Actually, I never paid attention how many hits it takes for the dragon to kill her plants.

I really don't think she needs a rework, but a little re-tuning to make her better at mid and less of a support. Honestly, it kind of bothers me that Riot seems to be reworking so many champions these days where a few minor tweaks could really just smooth them out.

Well, there are definitely many instances where they ARE necessary.

For me, those instances are when said champion are not functioning as they're intended to. Like how they're trying to make Gragas be more of a chaos-wreaking brawler rather than a squishy poke mage.

I agree with that point about Gragas, but the thing with Gragas is his kit was more oriented towards being a poke mage as opposed to a brawler, so he needed a rework. Zyra's kit is oriented towards her being a mage, but after some nerfs people just decided to start playing her support because of her utility. She doesn't really need a rework, just tweaks towards to push her towards her more intended role.

Of course, seeing Riot's track record, that "push" might just make her OP as a Support again, even though I still think Annie is several times worse with her guaranteed stuns.

As for Zyra being a mage, there was also talks about how they feel people are only using her plants as an afterthought, which I do kinda agree with. You want to hit your enemies with your Q and E. At the same time, if you summon plants with those spells, it also puts plants in a position where they get gibbed before they can even attack in a teamfight.

Either way, I'm kinda hoping for a Riot response to see whether they forgot about that thread or not. Because DAMMNIT those nerfs pissed me off so much. Not just because it hurts AP Zyra, but because of how insufferably smug everyone who didn't like playing against Zyra Support was. Try starting a thread about mage Zyra, and people who can't deal with Support Zyra would hijack the thread and focus on her being a Support.
