Can we change Garen's Ultimate to Physical Damage or True Damage already/

You know, I Think it's wonderful that there's players out there who don't give a damn about Gold Efficiency, so they just buy a DFG/VoidStaff to get the results out of an Ultimate that anyone who's played Garen should rightfully expect. But it's silly and it's time to reconsider changing the damage type on the ultimate to be favorable to Garen.

Change it to True Damage.

Is it going to allow Garen to Successfully get more kills with his ultimate? Yes. Is it going to break him and spiral him out of control making him the king of top lane? **Hell NO. This guy has a lot of unfavorable matchups, and has critical weaknesses in teamfighting that this change to his ultimate is NOT going to make him ridiculous to play against. **

Sure. Garen doesn't have to build anything to make his ultimate. Sure. That's a good thing. However.

It has a really high cooldown at rank 1
It has 400 range AND a long animation delay. Escape from this ultimate is a lot more viable than other's of a similar type.

Once the thing goes off, it should hurt if used right. Right now the Magic Damage on it hurts it too much.

To be quite honest, Garen's ult dealing physical damage would make him too powerful and making it True damage makes it a 100% worse version of Darius' ultimate.

If one was to make Garen's ult deal physical damage, it would scale off the LW and Brutalizers some Garen's like to buy and Garen would become an even more powerful champion than before

plus it nerfs DFGaren

The high cooldown isn't so high after you pick up your Brutalizer and if you have the +5% cooldown reduction mastery. ALso if you cast your ult on someone and they flash, it will still go off. It's not in as bad of a spot as everybody makes it out to be.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am pretty sure that Garen's ult does not scale with AP. Wouldn't this transfer to physical damage meaning that his ult would not scale off of AD but rather the targets missing health?

Garen's ultimate is magic damage. DFG deals a nice %Max HP nuke and then increases damage dealt from all magical sources.

Like his ultimate.

It hits very hard (especially with Void Staff)

Also if the ult were to be physical damage, it would scale off armour penetration. On a weak target, you'd be able to nuke someone for over true damage,

That's an interesting build option. I'd probably take out the voidstaff and just use the extra HP nuke and increases magic damage so as to not waste a slot on an item that isn't going to benefit that much. DFGaren... I wonder how viable this ACTUALLY is.

Void staff grants +40% magic pen, and DFG and Garen's ult both deal drumroll Magic damage!

But seriously, though. You're not getting anything out of the AP so why build two AP items? I can understand the DFG being a little more efficient because it does a HP nuke on top of increasing magic damage taken but having just magic pen doesn't scream slot efficiency.

The entire point of DFGaren is to build pen items and DFG and Lich Bane. Also, Lich bane scales off of AP.

try out dfg+BotrK Trundle, dfg+ult+BotrK is massive % health damage(~55% while also takeing away a good amount of armor/mr)

If it were true damage it would be BETTER than Darius' ultimate... Garen's is a zero effort point & click that does damage based on HP, Darius has to stack blood (which he has a hard time doing due to him being so immobile) before being able to get the full potential of his.

But uh... why shouldn't it scale off of ArPen? I mean I'm not saying it would be balanced if you just convert it over without looking further in to it, but it just makes more sense.

And lets face it, no matter what the numbers or how it scales or the type of damage, Garen's ult is BORING and THOUGHTLESS. Does that guy have low HP? Press R! I think we all enjoy a giant sword slamming down and Garen's big scream, but the skill is just so boring without the glitter masking it.

Not really.

Darius has pretty good range on his ult. If the target tries to flash out of an engagement, darius can still ult for the kill.

Lets put a garen with true damage on the ult. in the same scenario. Flash? welp if garen's flash is down, he is SOL.

Same 2, new scenario. Multiple targets.

Darius uses his AoE to start some stacks, focuses on one, then Ults, tries to stack on the other quickly, and ults again.

Garen uses his AoE, focuses on one, then ults. Then is left in a slugging match until his E is back up, because he doesn't get a refresh on his ult.

Honestly, I don't think that they are similar enough to compare. Garen does damage based upon the remaining HP of his target. Darius does damage based on stacks and AD. Garen is fairly short range, and has a decent CD, while Darius is Ranged and has the ability to use his ult a few times before the cd fully kicks in, even if he has to land repeated killing blows.

While I don't think they can be compared, if you reanalyze and balance the numbers, the conversion to true damage shouldn't be OP. And if it became AD, then I think it could also be balanced. Either way, Magic damage on his ult is pretty dumb.

Darius ult at max level does almost 1,000 true damage even at 1 health anyone thats not building straight health will not be dealt 1,000 by a garen ult I've played games where i've ulted the tank as garen only for him to escape because he had enough mr to live through it maybe it wasn't the best ult but he was low enough for me to definitly kill him if he didn't have 200mr

Garen's issue is not what type of damage it does, it is getting close enough to someone to use it xD

Garen's ult should be Physical Damage... It being magic just makes it more annoying in the early game because you want to build armor to counter Garen but his ult totally bypasses it. It makes it more annoying for Garen later as I imagine he would want to itemize penetration but his ult can't make use of it. If Riven can get an execute ult that she can itemize for, I don't see why Garen can't.

Give it a ratio to encourage offensive builds. Make it physical. Do something. It's terrible as it stands.

How does he deal more damage with a physical damage ult than a magic damage ult? Base armor runs up to 70-80, while MR caps between 30 and 50. The most powerful MR item grants 55 MR, while the most powerful armor item grants 100 Armor.

Even with LW, I don't see you regularly dealing less damage with a physical-based ult than a magic one.
