What, exactly, is zed's weakness?

It seems to me that Zed is horribly inbalanced in that he has no real weakness.

1-His shuriken harass has some of the longest range in the game (especially with clone, at which point he can hit from fog of war easily). 2-His clone swapping makes him incredibly hard to gank. 3-His ult makes him invincible during the 2-3 second animation 3-His burst at level 6 is ridiculous, even without any items.

If anything, you can argue he's limited by energy, but when it's nigh-impossible to capitalize on that due to him being either far away (because he can harass from so far) or you being dead, it doesn't seem like much of a weakness.

You could attack when he tries to cs, but then you run into the issue of eating a shuriken and being even anyway.

The standard play against him is to rush armor, while he builds damage - it seems wrong that laning against him practically mandates buying items to counter his damage, while he can just build damage - resulting in him being significantly deadlier mid-game.

Fizz can't escape forever because the mana cost is prohibitive, and he has no poke. Talon can't escape easily because he has to use his ultimate and it has no actual movement (just stealth, which can be countered), and has much much less range on his poke.

This is partly a rant, but it seems like Zed beats every other melee mid in every category.

It almost feels like Thresh - does everything well without significant drawbacks.

I just play Ziggs when I see a Zed.

Bouncing bombs, minefields, satchel for escape.

poke him down, wear him out, piss him off till he makes a stupid move.

I feel like Zed has a lot of weaknesses.

One of the is his difficulty curve. A lot of Zed players simply do not play him efficiently.

Zed is best countered by armor, the more armor the better. It affects him more so than other ad casters such as Talon because arm pen isnt as core as it is for them.

Zed can be outplayed in many ways, baiting out his shadow and then counter- zoning him is great. That shadow has a pretty long cd and aggressive zeds are free kills in a gank.

Choosing a fast wave clear champ goes well in allowing yourself to free farm because zed will likely want to roam and therefore wave clear then leave lane instead of camping your turret, and if he does just wait for the shadow poke combo to initiate.

Its also important to have a clear plan in mind with your champ selection, do you want to kite and poke him down or counter his burst with your own and probably break his combo with your CC, whcih Zed lacks.

Another thing to counter Zed, I know this is backwards, is QSS. The active removes his ult as its coded as a debuff. This allows you to QSS right after he ults you and then still zhonyas most of his combo away saving all your cds for after he blew his.

Lissandra is a good pick against zed and with the buggyness of her ult fixed more, the matchu is a lot more reliable. Liss has great wave clear as well and her cc and ult really mess with Zeds combo

Another great champ against zed is actually Talon himself. Granted his early game is still crappy, you can very easily out duel him. You wait for his ult then when he reappears, do talons full rotation, this should all be within the duration of Talon's E. When you R, you either escape or finish him off. Either way, youve done your full combo and can get away before zed does much after ulting.

Another champ Zed has problems with are sieging champs such as ziggs or nidalee. Yes, an assasin has an edge ina duel with these champs, however ziggs has ultra safe wave clear and can separate himself from zed with w.

Nidalee, well shes tough to kill and her cougar form clears waves pretty well too.

I hope this helps

item 3157 counters him, that's about it.

The problem with Zed is really that he's a manaless AD caster - a flawed concept IMO. He has very easy waveclear, free harass, and massive sustain from his lifesteal. Once he gets to level 6 or so, most mids can't dare go close to him to harass him too much, letting him farm and sustain even more easily. Since he has no costs, he can push or harass for free, and usually ends up with a very high CS score since he can get pretty much every creep while denying the enemy's by pushing into their tower.

Add to that the fact that he scales really well with items due to his W passive, and you get a champion who is very hard to defeat in lane, can farm very easily, and becomes very strong late-game.

But late-game is also his weakness. He can blow up one enemy, but to do so he has to go into the enemy team, where hard CC can shut him down quickly. That is, if he's not simply splitpushing.

Kayle

Ranged, and can ignore his ult. Also has decent harass inlane, and good teamfight potental.

We all know Zed is the Lee Sin of mid lane (the "I can do it all!" champion). The only thing you can do is rush item 3157 so he won't ult you anymore.

What everyone's said here is true. Also, with the changes to Exhaust, you can cut Zed's damage in half, making him very vulnerable with the debuff on him. Just one more way you can take down a Zed. Opt for Exhaust.

Cosmic Warper5/19/2014, 11:05:01 PM1 votes

Exhaust, difficulty curve, energy usage in lategame is worse than mana, tanks destroy him, no real presence in an AoE teamfight, support mids counter him, zhonyas outright counters him. Any questions? If he had no weaknesses he would be played competitively or picked/banned every game.

Also, champs like akali or wukong work well because they have some form of stealthy attack
