I like it! Make it a little bit shorter; focusing more on the "TL;DR" section with more gameplay videos, and focusing less on the discussion. Other than that, good job Riot!

Koeshi7/16/2014, 11:11:44 PM3 votes

I thought the video series has potential to be an amazing knowledge center for casual players. If you guys can produce bi-monthly videos on the state of the game (maybe a overview on how the patch affected the meta?), perhaps by highlighting new-found strengths, strategies, or champion roles, the video series will definitely take-off. And mspudding did a fantastic job! Well done rito :)

Will there be more of these Patch Rundows? I quite like them. (And one more thing, will more AP Midlaners who sees less play get buffs, like Ahri?)

Cerbearus7/17/2014, 12:25:48 AM2 votes

Don't care for the TL;DR as I fully read every single patch note, but I do like the discussion because hearing WHY a specific change was made is really interesting,

yung freud7/17/2014, 12:29:00 AM2 votes

i think a show like this is unnecessary, i won't be watching if it continues like the first episode.

the changes each patch are very well explained in the notes riot already provides us with, and there is a lot of extra information to be found on streams/reddit/blogs or vlogs and in game to fully comprehend changes after they are made.

while watching this, often times it felt like riot was forcing their opinion or reasoning down my throat. i don't need to be bought with fancy talk or comforting words about how my fav champ will still be useful in some way or another. PLEASE tell me the factual truth, naked and as compact as possible and let ME form my own opinion.

i may well be overreacting but watching videos like this makes me feel im being indoctrinated.

So you decided to resurrect the idea of the old Patch Previews?

I hope they are followed by the comics. Its the only way you get things like this:

I think that the patch rundown was cool.

As to content: I'm only one person, so I don't think my opinion really matters that much. Instead, what matters is how you arrive at whatever decision you arrive at.

I think the question you should ask yourself is, "What does a patch rundown bring to the table that's unique?"

My personal feeling is, if I wanted to hear the rundown, I'd read the patch preview. If I wanted to hear the details, I'd read the patch notes. At the same time, there are people who'd rather hear it, or who just haven't seen the patch preview/notes. Therefore, my suggestion is to break the video into two parts:

  1. Patch notes. in a little more depth than the tl;dr version in this rundown.
  2. Discussion of said changes.

Because part 1 will be significantly longer, give people a link to the time where you swap over, so those of us who have already read the patch notes can quickly skip to the interesting part.

I disagree just watch the TLDR at the start if you want the quick version I'd rather hear reds/pros discuss about the changes the way this video did.

Silverclaw7/16/2014, 11:57:41 PM2 votes

The things I wanted to see get covered (ADC Changes, other small buffs) never got talked about in depth. That makes me sad.

Moobeat7/17/2014, 1:55:51 AM2 votes

I very much enjoyed it

How about delaying Rundown a few days from patch notes and include questions from community?

shazb0t7/17/2014, 5:15:50 AM1 votes

Wouldn't it make sense to embed the actual Patch Rundown in this post?

evildeeds197/17/2014, 6:30:12 AM1 votes

It was a really good video, the tl;dr part went a little fast but the discussion part went over the information so it was ok. I really liked the discussion part, being able to hear the changes and why they are being implemented by game designers is really cool and it was why i watched the whole video.

BòüńD7/17/2014, 6:42:29 AM1 votes

I enjoyed the discussion greatly. I already see everything regarding patch notes from other sources so that specifically isn't filling a necessary void. It is nice to see an insider look from the balance team, sort of like what Phreak did before. It was also a great idea to have Snoopeh there to have the competitive knowledge. However, I have to say I much preferred listening to what Snoopeh had to say regarding the changes. Although very critical his logic seemed solid. I'd really like to see more professional players consulted before changes like these are made. What he says about inhibitors needing a timer before jungle camps is especially spot on. I'm not saying this because I am against jungle timers, in fact I've come to enjoy it although it does make the game simpler leaving less of a skill gap between newer and experienced players. It was said in this discussion that jungle timers were something considered for implementation for quite some time, however most people know that the real motivator behind doing so was Curse Voice. Whether or not it had been considered beforehand isn't really the point, if it wasn't for the Curse Voice application controversy this likely would have taken much more time. It's nice to know that the community is being listened to, but I feel like putting the games into the hands of the community is less effective than putting it into the hands of the competitive knowledge base. League of Legends is an E-Sport, the people playing at the highest level do have some idea of what makes the game work, and ways to make it continue to work. This improves quality of life for the casual fanbase, the most important part of the game financially, however making the game feel more alive for the top competitors is what will really make League of Legends a better choice for a sport. Please listen to your competitive audience! I'd love to see even more pro players involved in these discussions talking directly to the development team. A good debate is great for transparency! Keep up the great work.

Loved it. I want more.

An English Guy7/17/2014, 12:07:51 PM1 votes

I enjoyed this, I especially appreciated getting a pro player on to discuss points of concern with. Hoping this can be a regular thing with all patch notes.

MrSc0tty7/17/2014, 1:48:12 PM1 votes

I felt like in this one, the dissenting opinion of the one pro player was kinda shit down by all three Rioters very quickly explaining at once. If anyone with a negative or questioning opinion is gonna get shut down real quickly, make sure there's two or more people NOT on the design team present, or on the design team maybe with a different opinion. It felt a little like it was "team Riot vs This One Guy" for a couple of the points.

By far, the girl presented the most polished, im-used- to-public-speaking persona there, while Statikk in particular came across as quite nervous and almost concerned about immediately getting defensive about each change discussed. Wôrk on relaxing more when called on to discuss changes, and I would ensure that you're not going off a ticking click- give the discussion a bit more time to go on.

Tahalden7/17/2014, 2:13:43 PM1 votes

I see a few different voices in the comments section, so let me add mine: Make it longer!

I can see why people prefer the shorter TL;DR: version. But both can be done, by starting off with the TL;DR: showing all the videos and the most important changes. But what interests me the most is the subsequent discussion about the changes. Why were they added? What is the reasoning behind them? What kind of design philosophy moves a given champion in a given direction? That's the important stuff, to understand why decisions are made.

It helps us to understand what the goal of designers is with certain changes, and therefore also better understand what kind of a role a given champion is "expected" to fill.

In any case, thanks for the rundown video! I like it, and can be longer as far as I'm concerned! :-)

Sugoî7/17/2014, 3:37:31 PM1 votes

Could you maybe add some pings? ex: enemy escape down, ultimate up in 10, and a warded ping so your jungler knows to use sweeping lens. Thank You!

1karus7/17/2014, 9:10:25 PM1 votes

TBH I felt like you should have covered all of the patch notes. I think that all of them did a good job of clarifying what the changes where, why they decided to make them, and how they affected the champions game play and kit over-all .

future is here7/18/2014, 6:42:56 AM1 votes

Hi, these videos seems to be a great idea from Riot, congratulations, and continue with it ! :) My feedback is: I miss a time to allow snoopeh, or maybe the rioters, start a new subject to explain or comment, as they only talk about the subjets started by Christina. So i feel like "maybe snoopeh can make some question, lot of players can feel concerned with too, but as Christina did not start that point in the talk, he has no chance to talk about it.."

For example, I would like Ahri been a point in the talk too, but she was not. And maybe, maybe not, snoopeh can ask Nome or Statikk to explain also the Ahri' buf, as the explanation in the patch notes is.... strange: "..she's currently sitting just below the top-tier mid picks. That said, we don't think she needs too many buffs to keep up"

What about other mid lane champions who are not in the top-tier for a long time ago? Why Ahri (seems) is not allowed to be down of that top-tier for mid picks?

I mean, maybe snoopeh wanted to ask about it, as he also did some really good questions in the talk about timers or lucian. But he had no the chance as Ahri was not introduced by Christina in the talk, so, i feel more time to talk about all changes would be great, or instead, let all the people in the talk start the points they can feel more interesting.

P.D. Nice to meet you all ;)

Hi evrybody! please read this and try to give me your opinions about it because I have an important thing to say about the nerf of kha'zix:

I'm one of kha'zix's fans and players. before the nerf, I really was seeing that he's a cool champion, fun to play, and sweet at his gameplay.. I was playing him a lot as a main champion.. I was enjoying it and founding that he's so op early game.. but the probleme, is that he needs more utility for jungling, his spells are giving him more top/mid opness, than jungle, when I found that kha should be fixed at one specific lane, and it's the jungle.. for example he does a lot of dmg with q wich should be nerfed a little bit because he's jungler and he needs cc+utility instead of all that dmg wich makes him better at mid/top.. so let's say , he was ok, but abused opness as a jungler.. here we have to nerf him, right, I like the decision u took trying to nerf him I'm fine about that , but I don't like the way u nerfed him.. so I will just tell you about my opinion, about what we have to change at kha'zix trying to nerf him + making him more specific jungler champion than mid or top.. there we go:
    1) I found that instead of inscreasing the Isolation radius from 350 to 500 units .. better to redius it from 350 to 300, and the point of that is to make the enemy mid laner for exemple when he gets ganked by kha'zix , he have to use his brain and his skills , and try to walk away near minions or near his tower instead of a little away from his tower, to not get isolated and take a lot of dmg...
    2) reducing his ulti cd a little bit to give him more utility because 100secend is really too much, and add a new buff when using the R of kha'zix wich makes each stealth cast gives you in addition of the mov.speed buff, another buff wich increase tinacity(resitance to all cc)by 20-60% when stealth so u can use it to get away from hard slows/to avoid the enemy cc's when u gank him like nocturne's shield/also giving him more utility at jungling..
    3) You can also make his passive slow and his W spell slow more strong adding about +20% to each one, wich helps kha'zix being sepecificly jung more than top/mid and gives him more opness at his ganks before lvl 6..
    4) You can nerf his Q's dmg , it's fine because , the q is really Op and it's being the most important spell of kha wich reduis the importance of other spells, so better nerf its dmg for exemple from 70/95/120/145/170 to 50/70/100/125/150, but in the same time, giving it an additional damage depending the missing health of the target , for exemple (50/70/100/125/150 + 4%/4%/4%/4% of enemy missing health max 200 vs monstres + a ratio of +1.2 bonus attack damage)

So this helps him a lot at being more specific jungler champion than top/mid and gives him more jungling opness , and in the same time more top/mid weakness and also to make this spell importance not so high making all his spells (Q,W,E) getting the same importance and opness and also to oblige kha'zix jungler players to max W first instead of Q wich increases the cc on the target for more strong ganks because the Q becomes depending ennemy missing health as 4% unchangable with maxing the q , all ranks 4% missing health..(4% is just an exmaple it can be 10% or 20% I don't care I'm just telling the Idea not the amount , cause there's profissionals to do this, not me for sure xD. 5) An other important point, You maybe can Increase the mana cast of kha wich means nerfing him a litte bit, because really he have so low mana cast spells for example his q only 25 mana -_- .. ok being top or mid , it's fine by making the mana cast so low because top or mid always needs so much and much mana. but being jungle isn't the same..If you remember riot, you did changes to alistar last couple of years by making the mana cast so hight wich made him in mana problems when he goes supp , but didn't do any matter for his jungling , so please do the same thing with kha'zix to make it so hard , and rly so so hard going as mid or top , and to make you fall in mana probs i

Good job Ms (Mrs?) Pudding. You are articulate and run through the material pretty well. I enjoyed it better than the funny TLDR that gets posted on reddit.

I have no complaints. Keep it up.

loved the new rundown namely the discussion because usually i will read the patch notes then forget them tomorrow as there's no disscusion and i forget how the patch effects the game

The cait autoattack bugfix that was stated in the patch is still happening

flashgames7/17/2014, 2:23:26 AM1 votes

I think the rundown is a great idea, especially for newer players. The only problem I think is that there was a lot of discussion on the good and bad things about jungle timers as opposed to how they actually affect gameplay, though understandably, that's probably not fully researched yet. Also, gameplay footage with before and afters would be quite useful as I don't think most people know how much 50 range is. But well done Riot!

cyfarias7/17/2014, 2:46:05 AM1 votes

I see the TL:DR part as more of an introduction to the discussion which is, I believe, the really cool part of the video. I would like to see a longer discussion, since it seemed just a little bit rushed. Other than that, the show seems great!

Is it just me or in this patch twitch doesn't have recommended items? on howling abyss at least.

Riven IRL7/17/2014, 3:21:15 AM1 votes

I love the idea. Personally I think that perhaps it should be even longer, because it seems like this show is for people who really want in depth analysis of the patch notes, however people looking for a quick tl;dr can just read the actual notes and that's pretty much the same thing. Either way, I loved the first episode and I look forward to watching more to come.
