It would be nice to have more gameplay based around the changes instead of the camera on the person speaking the whole time.

I think this is a great series otherwise, I don't mind the length and I don't get why so many people don't like it.

get scarra every single time. he actually questions your theories.

Linna Excel7/30/2014, 5:02:50 PM16 votes

Most Sona players never asked for her to be reworked.

The Tragic Hero7/30/2014, 10:20:31 PM14 votes

I love Hecarim but the changes in this patch are nice and all, but I think the big issue is the cool down on his E, 20 secs at rank 1 is to high, 15 kinda feels right and I don't think he will break the game at that number. 1 powerful charge is not that game breaking considering rengar can 1 shot any nontank.

Daltiair7/31/2014, 12:31:03 AM14 votes

Am I the only one who thinks that these "changes" to help assassins are not going to help them at all?

ZylotheWolfbane7/30/2014, 5:59:00 PM11 votes

Sure, I have a few questions to ask.

First: I noticed that the patch notes did not say that Gnar would be released during this patch, does that mean he won't be released until the next patch? Or did you just not want to announce it fully yet? Or what?

Second: With the Sona rework, you took some time to do a texture update as well, but Pentakill Sona STILL uses the base sounds, which is INCREDIBLY unfitting, and practically ruins the feel of the skin as a whole. You already have the files of the Pentakill album songs, I would think you could fairly easily pull sounds from those to use for updated sounds on her, she has three passive Auras which play music during them, the Pentakill album has three full-length instrumentals, see where that's going? Currently it just feels like her Pentakill skin is not worth 975 RP because many other 975 RP skins have different particles and sounds, but Pentakill Sona, one of the skins who seems like she would most likely want said particles and sounds, has none at all. Is this something you simply didn't have time for before the update came out? Do you plan to fix this in the future? Or do you simply believe that a heavy metal skin should go around playing happy harp sounds?

Third: I noticed you mentioned in Olaf's changes how he was hurt by removal of tank/CDR items, do you think you'll ever make a few more items focused towards tanky top laners who want more CDR? What are the concerns of adding such items to the game?

Fourth: How's Essence Reaver doing? I know this item has been a hot topic of discussion for a lot of people since its release, and various changes, in its current form it just feels like a boring late-game alternative to Blood Thirster, personally I'd like to see its AD lowered back to 60 ish, and see it built from Vamp Scepter, Pickaxe, and Forbidden Idol, allowing people to piece it together from these both makes sense towards the build path(Since currently, where the heck does the mana+CDR come from between BF sword and Vamp scepter?), as well as letting players decide what they value more early on, extra damage, sustain, or mana sustain/CDR, which gives players more choice in their early game item purchases, as well as letting them piece the Essence Reaver together a bit easier then having to wait for a huge chunk of gold for the BF sword. I also feel like the Essence Reaver might benefit from some actual passive MP5 regen to help out with the mana reaving, or at least make the mana reaving passive also work with single target abilites. How do you think that would work out with many of the more underplayed mana-hungry marksmen, or AD caster like champs?

Finally: Will Gnar get a Mecha skin? Where he literally becomes a transformer and turns from small, quick robot into huge awesome mech of doom? Please say yes :D

Captain Dolan7/31/2014, 8:58:47 AM10 votes

Riot really should buff those champions that needs it most. Like Shaco,Poppy,Urgot etc etc..

2VHWu4GBa67/30/2014, 7:53:41 PM9 votes

Why aren't immobile champions being fixed?

especially Chogath Nasus Taric melee immobile champions without even a movement speed bonus.

(I left sion out because he's getting a full relaunch, so he's getting fixed)

Ki Nala Atum7/30/2014, 11:51:45 PM8 votes

1st- Isn't the nerf on Ziggs Ziggs ulti a bit too harsh? If they wanted to reduce his wave clear from afar wouldn't it be better to simply reduce the damage against minions? Because at 120 seconds at late game, when everyone has their ultimates at around one minute, doesn't sound very fair.

2nd- Do you have any plans for items that combine Atk Speed & Armor or Atk Speed & Hp? Those are a combination that's missing. But then you have pairs of items that do practically the same, like the Hp/Armor of item 3143 and item 3068 , Hp/Mr in item 3065 and item 3102 and Atk Speed/Crit in item 3087 and item 3046 . So, we have the same combinations in multiple items but other stats like those I said, have 0 items.

3rd- It feels like non SR maps are neglected a lot. First there was an incident with the ward from item 3205 completely shaking the balance in those maps. Then there are some mysteries like item 3508 being suddenly removed. I suspect it's because of the inclusion of item 1038 in the recipe but it wasn't even announced. Then there are some errors in the tooltips, for example the new item 3208 still showing the old stats or the new item 3159 not showing the bonus gold. It makes me think that theses maps are not being tested enough. The balance here is just nerfing what's overpowered and little else. Are there any plans to bring better balance to these maps and/or doing something to increase their player base?

4th- What are your thoughts about slow, squichy and immobile champions like Brand, Malzahar and others? They don't see much gameplay, either in solo que or competetive play. Is this an issue? If so how could it be solved?

MadCast VoShay7/30/2014, 5:06:25 PM8 votes

What patch rundown? :(

WatermelonScream7/31/2014, 4:25:41 AM7 votes

I play a lot of Morgana support and I must say, she is really strong and dominates pretty much all other supports. I think the fact she has 3 seconds snare on like a 10 second cooldown, low mana cost, and high ap scaling is pretty rediculous. Not to mention the shield that makes her or any ally immune to cc for 5 whole seconds. Or the AoE slow/stun... My point is morgana has loads of cc with little risk because of her spellshield, and I really think she needs some tweaking...

HuskyLion7/30/2014, 11:55:08 PM7 votes

Why has there not been a Yasuo nerf yet? His kit is good but is unbalanced when combined with early game damage. Once he grabs item 3087 and item 3031 usually before 20 min he can literally win the whole game on his own with one Q.

Fede7/31/2014, 6:22:13 AM7 votes

You started this season buffing the jungle and the support with new items and then you nerf all ? First you nerfed feral flare that is not even viable anymore, then you nerfed the support gold generating items, the supports even with those items they are not even close to the gold that any other laner/jungler has at the end of the game even if the support dominated. Then you decide to nerf lee, kha, elise, eve, shyvana, i get they are strong but why you don't try buffing junglers that are not even viable anymore like skarner, sejuani, shaco, amumu, olaf , trundle, zac ? All of these champs and roles always get overshadowed by the mid and the adc who you have been buffing a lot recently for no reason, the randuins nerf really helped them out and then you buff bt with a shield like if they were not strong enough with trinity force. Tristana, Kog and Corki are so broken now even after the nerfs, they scale like monsters, a thing that a support won't never be able to do, are you getting my point ?

ratcharmer7/31/2014, 7:13:17 PM6 votes

I honestly wish you guys wouldn't try so hard to spin everything in a positive light. If a change is controversial, then man up and explain it as a controversial change. Don't spend ten minutes telling us how wonderful the Sona rework is and how everyone will love it when there's been so much negative feedback.

I get that you can't make everyone happy all the time, and attempting to is pure madness, but when you try to pretend the portions of the community that object to the change don't exist it just comes across really condescending and rude.

Granty7/31/2014, 10:34:27 AM5 votes

I don't really get the hate on these videos, I think they are great. Very informative, and getting a pro perspective on the changes which might clash with the designer makes the videos feel a lot more genuine and interesting, it feels like the community has a voice in the discussion rather than just a one-way riot feed.

As some people have mentioned, I think minimal use of game play footage or screen shots would make the videos better. Showing old/new ranges, model/graphical change comparisons and etc to reinforce what is being said would make the viewers understand what the changes actually mean, rather than just numbers. For example in this video, scarra was talking about elise rappel range and saying that it was 1000 range, after he said that showing a video comparison of the old and new range would make the viewer on the same page easier, the same case for when the rioter was talking about the sona ult graphical changes.

The host is very good, she seems very natural. Some people seem to be complaining that the host isn't bringing anything to the discussion other than reinforcing what has already been said, though I think that I'd how a host should be. A host is there to organise and present the show, and since she is neither a pro player, nor a game design/balance expert, what she could bring to the discussion is very limited compared to what the guests could bring.

I think the length is fine, and I would even watch longer videos if the back and forth between designer and player continued.

In summary I think the show is presented well, I think the host is very natural, I think the free discussion in the panel gives it a lot of substance and I look forward to the next patch video.

I think starting this new series was a great idea. It's a high-quality briefing video that you get straight form the source, rather than having to look up some other user's TLDR on YouTube and having to rewind 30 times to understand what they said. However, I do feel that it could center more around the actual changes in the game rather than a talk-show type setting for 90% of the video... I feel like I'm not getting all of the important information in the opening briefing, and that the things that are talked about in the post-summary lounging session only cover a small fraction of the things in the notes. I don't expect EVERYTHING in the notes to appear in the video, because in that case, what's the point in having the notes? However, I do believe that more people would prefer an in-depth look at the majority of the changes, rather than: "Here's our top three changes, now listen to some small-talk weaved in between some League Big Names as they talk about why 1/5th of the changes were made and how they affect gameplay."

The concept is interesting, but at this stage I feel I would get more out of reading the patch notes through, then taking a glimpse at the second portion of the video for a vague explanation of why they changed something that I cared about.

My hunch is that you still want people to actually READ the patch notes rather than simply watch a video that covers everything (hence the lack of extensive information about what's actually in the notes), and I don't expect you to change whatever your goal may be.

I look forward to Riot's tweaks and adjustments as well as further episodes. My greatest hope for this series is that it grows into something that has enough information to keep me engaged for the entire episode.

Champions who build DFG as a core item: Katarina Leblanc Veigar Champions who situationally build DFG:Ahri Akali Fizz Lissandra Sejuani Syndra Tristana

Champions who build DFG as a core item and see competitive play: none Champions who situationally build DFG in competitive play:Ahri Fizz Syndra

Yeah, that DFG nerf seems legit

I'm not fully understanding a healthy assassin? My terms of an assassin is someone who can delete u quickly. Talon, old LB, syndra, fizz, etc. They can delete u in a matter of 1-3 sec. That makes the game fun. Static, sorry if misspelled, seems to not like the fact of dfg. Who uses it? Champs with skillshots use that item. Now yes i would completely agree if champs like lissandra starting using it. Watching the competitive scene lately has been boring without bjerg, kerp, faker, etc. playing these assassins. It's just farm for 20-30 min then fight. I feel you guys are moving away from early game aggression, unless the jungler is doing something. Less 1v1 or 2v2 plays. This whole season seemed to be to tone down early game advantages.

Nutcheck7/31/2014, 12:25:47 AM4 votes

Patch rundown is awesome. Gives me informative info while waiting for the update to finish. Also is Gnar coming in this patch or the next.

Xinrick7/31/2014, 12:10:32 AM4 votes

Why did you want to change Sona from what she is and what she's already good at? I think that her entire idea has been changed to 'how much do I need to be like Leona to be apart of this?' Her aura's are what made Sona who she is, not Crescendo(which you made look so much smaller now) and her aura's are now like...what? 2 to 4 seconds long? She's not supposed to be in front of everyone, she's supposed to stay back and support.

I know I'm getting mad here but it seems weird that your making a support aura champion more front line mage then a support. ZYRA is a better support now in my eyes then the best support in the game with these changes. Mind if I get an explanation here if I may be so bold to ask?

Thanatos Noa7/31/2014, 6:51:06 AM4 votes

So are we going to see the fall of Orianna? I'm tired of seeing her picked almost every competitive game while other champs like Talon get no love whatsoever.

Ziphar7/31/2014, 12:45:53 AM4 votes

After most of the slightly powerful/popular champion being nerfed on patch 4.13.

Why is there no changes at all on Nidalee?

Nidalee is currently broken as hell.

Long range, strong Poke With Heal, great sustain Even a strong escape and mobility And cougar form to out duel bruiser

She has no weakness in lane, and OP as hell.

She needs some changes, at least nerf on the power to out duel bruiser.

only zhule7/31/2014, 7:11:23 PM3 votes

I found this helpful to understand some of the changes, and i did like how there were real questions as to why certain changes were made.

That said i felt that the Sona rework was little glossed over. Playing her now, i feel like if i get into the late game i'm a huge bonus for my team in fights. The surprise extra damage from Q has really changed battles, and W's shield has gone a long way to helping push an enemy team back. However, i feel like my early game had it's legs taking out from under it. I'm still to squishy to stand near the front lines, but if i'm not up there my Q doesn't really benefit anyone. And if i wanted to play as a healer i'd pick Soraka. Also i'm noticing that the time bonus on the aura's is kind of pointless a lot of the time. In the early game it's very rare that the extra .5 seconds is going to let me tag another player, and at the end game i'm usually tagging the whole team from the get go.

I personally would like to see the aura's actually do something while active. Something like Gankplank's morale boost, a short term bonus that everyone in the area gets, Rather then this "SURPRISE 150 extra magic damage from each member of my team". It might work out to being more damage per player, but at the same time it allows for the enemy team to decide if they want to disengage till the aura is down. Sona right now feels more like a "one and done" champion, then a champion who promotes strategic pushes and retreats.

TheThunderHell8/1/2014, 4:09:41 AM3 votes

Don't you think you went to harsh on Khazix ? its has been a very very long time since i saw kha'zix wich was pretty useless the whole game also do you have any plans on buffing Quinn also about Fizz he's is pretty strong at the game he can just W/Q/E any one without even have to use his ulti his brust damage is insane. and his cooldown's are not that much

bbrantb7/30/2014, 10:52:59 PM2 votes

First thing: I want to ask about this patch is the buff on assassins. I get the Nerf on item 3102, but that doesn't really buff champions like Zed, which hasn't see a lot of play recently. The buff is more towards Ahri, and Leblanc. With the Cool down increase on item 3128, makes it so they're strong but not that strong. During all of this focus on these Mages. It leaves Ad bust Champions like Zed, and Varus, Riven in the dust while the meta has been focusing on the wave clearing teams in the favor. as you can tell I miss the time as Zed and Varus bursting some one down. And when are we going to see the return of that?

Lucas Barreto8/1/2014, 9:10:41 PM2 votes

Sona is now a unsafe support, with low life, low damage, low heal early level's, big cooldows, big mana costs. Compare her to nami for an example, nami have best cc, best heal, best damage, best utility in TF's. Sona need buff's right now. Her poke is so unsafe compared to her fucking low life, and now her "Q" have 40 damage sounds so pathetic. (sorry for my bad english)

ZylotheWolfbane8/1/2014, 5:11:05 PM2 votes

Anyone else finding it odd that Riot encouraged us to ask questions with this thread, but no Rioters(at the time of this post) have been here to answer said questions? No offense to them or anything, it just seems a bit odd for them to encourage all these questions towards them, but then not answer any of said questions. Maybe they're all busy working on Gnar?

BluePriest7/30/2014, 9:03:44 PM2 votes

Here is my question. Why is essence reaver still removed from twisted treeline when you never even documented the removal in the first place? I assumed it was because its built off of BF sword now, and that this patch was going to re-introduce it into TT like with Quill Coat the past patch, but it didnt.

Luner Hunter7/31/2014, 7:54:56 AM2 votes

why was the sona rework downplayed so much? it was "sona's abilites have been reworked ON TO THE NEXT TOPIC!" >.< i don't mean to sound angry or anything if i do... :|

GospodarOstrice7/31/2014, 9:48:52 AM2 votes

Could you comment on the current state of Ziggs? As an avid Ziggs player (100+ games on Ziggs this season), I feel that the recent nerfs the Q's hitbox was really significant, a bit too strong. What I liked with Ziggs is the poke aspect of him: you'd poke your enemy down while avoiding any direct fights and if you manage to poke them down, you would try to go in for the kill.

However, after the Q nerf it became significantly more difficult to poke enemies down in lane. I feel that the "poke game" in early levels is gone, since I think it's better to just try push my opponent, rather than spend mana on harass that has low probability of hitting (imo mana is an issue, especially early without blue). This also transfers to later stages of the game as well. I guess statistically Ziggs is now okay (50% winrate at diamond ranked according to LoLking.com), but he feels noticeably less satisfying to play. He's good at the "PvE game", but his (more interesting) "PvP" aspect is lacking.

I am interested in what Riot thinks about Ziggs now. My comment is based on my limited playing time of Ziggs after the nerfs, so it's possible that I need more time to adjust, but I don't think my opinion will change much later on. I was wondering if there was the possibility to shift some power away from Ziggs passive to his Q (perhaps lowering/removing damage from W?) and together with the recent ult cd nerfs it may be okay. Since Q was his main bread-and-butter, nerfing it significantly effects Ziggs way to much imo.
